I think I didn't explain well. That's my doubt, in fact: if I'm in Cambodia heading to Thailand, it's a bad idea to get riels because they're worthless in Thailand, so I must get dollars, but, where can I get US$ in Cambodia? Any ATM? Over the counter in a bank? Withdraw riels and then go to a exchange house?

BTW, I'm not exactly a suspect of "nomad beggar" :D I'm 38, from an EU country and while using a backpack, I don't look like a classic backpacker (not tattoos, not dreadlocks, not Hawaiians, not Chang tank top...)

Last visit to Thailand, 4 years ago, never asked me to show cash, but I'm reading that nowadays it's a more common issue at some borders.

Thanks Steven :)

So, my doubt is: what currency are you carrying? I think you can't exchange some currencies outside their countries, so you can't carry Lao KIP or Cambodian Riels to Thai and then exchange it to THB, can you?

Are you getting 20.000 bath in US$ while in any of those countries? Or can you exchange KIP or Riels to THB in Thailand?

aaah! ok! So it's similar to the METV: the visa permits me to enter the Kingdom anyday in the next 90 days from the issued date; and, when I enter Thailand, they put the enter date and te 60 days countdown starts.

These are great news! Thank you so much Paul and Tod! :)

Thanks Paul. My doubt is: if I apply for the SETV in Vientiane a day, example: 1-dec, then keep traveling through Lao and Cambodia, and enter Thailand on, by example, 20-dec... does the SETV start to count from 1-dec or 20-dec for the 60 days?

If it's the second it'll be great, because we plan to stay in Vientiane early in our trip... and have read bad experiences about applying for a visa in Phonm Pehn.

I though about it, but I think I can't show proof of hotels and outwards travel, which is mandatory at least in the Thai consulate in my home country. They advise specifically about it in their website, and warns that no one METV will be issued without both proofs :(

So I can apply for the SETV in Vientiane, and enter Thailand 3 weeks later, and the SETV starts on that date so I'll have the full 60 (+30) days? These are great news!

Do you know what is the 8.Copy of tickets/documents showing the need of multiple entries into Thailand?

What documents can prove that?
