Can I extend my ED visa if I extended it just before the new rules on September 27th?

I think I already know the answer, but just in case...

I'm in my third (last) extension of my ED visa. I extended it late July as usual as I was still studying etc and wanted to keep it updated and avoid the queues by the end of the amnesty.

Now I read about any extensions will be set from September 27th

I assume that I can't do anything with it, and I have to leave on late October, right? Because that "from Sept 27th" is just for new extensions, right?

I'm just wondering if I played stupidly by extending on time instead of taking advantage of the amnesty - or if I played smart as those extensions after amnesty are not intended for EDs.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about the implications of extending their ED visa just before a new extension policy effective September 27. They worry that their extension might limit their options to stay beyond their current expiration in late October, questioning if they shouldn't have taken advantage of a previous amnesty instead. A comment clarifies that the ED visa extension is contingent on their study duration and that they must leave the country after their course ends, regardless of application dates.

The Extension of Stay is given to you because you study in Thailand. The day this course ends, you cancel the Extension and leave the country.

It does not matter to play around with days of application.

I know. But as I could keep studying in the same school, I was just wondering if I could extend "after amnesty" in case I didn't before.

I know (I assume) that I can't extend anymore now. Just wondering if I acted smart or stupid back in July 😉

I'm in a similar situation but I have one extension left. My problem is that my school won't provide me with a 3 month course so I don't have a valid reason to extend. I've been adviced to wait until the middle of this month when they expect that the government will have come out with an announcement on what we can do. Hopefully, they'll let us apply for a new student visa within the country. If not, there's always volunteer visas, although they're very expensive.

The Extension of Stay is based on your course, not on how long you like to live inside Thailand.

and I can "extend" my course as it's a rolling course not based on semesters, and have more levels to study after the level I applied for last year.

If you are in a rolling course, not based on semesters and with more levels, you get new Extensions of Stay until all levels are done or when you or the school decide to split up.

In this case your opening statement is not correct: I'm in my third (last) extension of my ED visa

I already know everything regarding that.

AFAIK I only can extend an ED three times based on reasons of studying - what I've done already. What's not correct in my opening statement?

I'll enroll in the advanced level if (when) I could stay here for a few months, being it under an ED or any other visa.

I'm just asking about if I acted smart or stupid by extending it on July - I mean, I'd like to know, if I wouldn't extend on July, would I be eligible for extension after amnesty? I'm asking just to make my mind up, just to blame or congrat myself.

I already have my (fare flexible to change dates) plane ticket back to EU for late October as I knew that that is the expiration date of my current permission of stay. I'm not asking "how to stay more and more" - I'm just asking if my movement in July was smart or not.

I'm telling nobody that they have to leave, sorry but I only try to explain the rules of Immigration. I did not make the rules, but if I sign: I hereby declare to acknowledge and understand the rules, I will make sure that I know what I sign.

The Visa can be extended as long as you follow the course plan on which this visa is based.

That means there is no maximum 3 Extensions on visa.

After amnesty has nothing to do with you. If the course ends of you or your school decide to stop the education you visit the Immigration Office and cancel your current valid Extension of Stay on that day.

After cancellation you apply for a new Extension of Stay if there is a reason of which you can meet the requirements of you leave the country to get a new visa
