Very Helpful John - many people will be wise to go with your checklist.. even if not residing in Bkk.. Anyone outside of Bkk could just double check for any local variance in what they may want.

Folks - I use the "Kitchen Sink" method.. I take everthing but the kitchen sink.. If the officer doesn't want it then he/she will just hand it back.

The reason this change is a problem is that in the past employers did not have to prove much of anything and it was low cost to no cost to just send employees to Penang.. Now we see with Extensions of Stay done at local immigration some employers are reluctant to try to prove compliance with certain Thai laws related to taxes and hiring sufficient numbers of required Thai employees.

The only One Year option for a Foreign Employee is an Extension of Stay acquired at Thai Immigration via application by the employer or their agent.. The employee could theoretically do the application work but would need extensive documentation, assistance and cooperation from the employer:

Bottomline - A Foreign Employee of a Thai Registered Company cannot get a One Year Multi Entry B Visa Anywhere Anymore.. case closed

Keep in mind that KL Malaysia has a time difference from Bkk Thailand - use Google Adjust accordingly

At a Border Crossing - if you are eligible you crossover - stamping out of Thailand then into (in this case Malaysia... Then reverse the process. You will get stamped back in for a 30 day Exemption Entry (it is not a visa). If you have already had 2 land crossings in this calendar year to get an Exemption Entry - then you cannot get a 3rd one.
