Yup. I applied when in country when I got the retirement visa. I transitioned from a marriage visa because of a divorce. I have since transitioned to an LTR pensioner visa. I am still weak with the language and depend a l;ot on my Thai wife whose grasp of English eclipses my grasp of Thai, and Google Translate is my constant companion. I cannot tell from what you have stated how much due diligence you have done. Please, if you have not done so, do much due diligence research. Forms such as this can give you ideas about what to research. They will give you some answers, but even research those answers, including mine. I am happy here, and it is not all sunshine, smiles and roses. It is a major life transition. It means learning to accept Thai culture and not expecting Thai people to meet the cultural expectations that ar the norm in the US. It means having a willingness to be learning every day, major amounts of patience, especially with the concept of Thai time. It means learning that while most Thais are wonderful and kind, they live and do things at their own pace. On time can be one or two or three or more hours later, which is OK in Thai culture. It can even mean canceling an appointment and not telling you unless you think to ask and confirm, and even then the confirmation can mean a time delay. I could write a book about all the myriad little things that take gracious acceptance as they differ so much from US expectations. With all that said, I love it here. I am building a small house in the countryside. I have a good car and motorbike. I have a Thai bank account, a helpful local pharmacy and a Dr. and Dentist I trust in nearby cities. I have a Thai family in addition to the US family I moved from. Nothing is all good. You can do it. Itwill not be lavish. While medical is inexpensive it still costs. I save a bit every month in a separate medical/ rainy day account. My wife and I live on less than you propose monthly and it is less expensive here in rural Isaan. Consider capital expenses you may want to make. Vehicles, etc. Research the cost of having a cell and internet. Look up rentals in areas you might want to live to get more direct info on costs. Consider visa expenses and learn those ropes. The Thai government has good summaries of each type online. If you consider an agent for visa and driveres license help in Iknow a very good and honest one in the area you are proposing. I am not certain that was true. I think so as she was listed as survivor. She may have had to open a new account when I died and transfer the funds. Never got that far. With my current wife I am going to be more careful and be certain about how she can keep what we will have in Thailand. I have to check with immigration to see if her name can be on the account I use to show I have required funds for visa. I will also make her one of the beneficiaries to my retirement funds in the US, my children will get some of that, and this year I will get her listed on my US bank accounts. In the past, my ex and I were given separate debit cards to the same account at Bangkok Bank. The account was listed in my name with her having access to it. It took a bit of asking and research on their part but they found a way to do it.
