 went to Bangkok to collect passport and immigration told him to pay overstay, as he went to pay he was dragged out and put in IDC.

 it was reported stolen and new one applied for. The issue was visa and agent mistake.

 the person had passport stolen but didn't know visa expiry date was wrong. So got new passport went to immigration. Told was on overstay but as he prepared to pay, guards came in and dragged him out. No one knew where he'd vanished to for days.
