as far as i know (for the past 5 years or so at least) you have always needed to transfer your stamp.

the question is, where can you have it transferred? ive always done it at bkk. the OP was not allowed to do it at the nong khai land border and was required to go to nong khai immigration.

im not sure when this new rule started... i did go through bkk airport a few weeks ago with new passport and old, and the immigration counter (where you pay overstays etc) transferred the stamp without issue, then stamped me out from the new passport. (i did this procedure there in 2014 as well).

what do you mean by the hotel reservation... did it need to be a paid for reservation that you then get refunded? or just a normal reservation?
Amy *******
no.

just make sure you meet the entry requirements (onward ticket,
*****
b equivalent in cash, and the address of your hotel) and youll be fine
Amy *******
its allowed.

the posts were referring to number of visa-exempt entries over land borders

thats what id do too, but if he wants to get a proper visa, thats how he goes about getting in and out
Amy *******
assuming you get the appropriate visa beforehand in the UK,

you can get a "re-entry permit" at the bkk airport on your way to vietnam.

this will allow you to re-enter thailand on the same visa as before
