Fyi.. This is totally incorrect. You need to go to immigration and switch the visa there. Also requires 2 forms. Application to change to ne passport. Yes there is a typo. The other one is completed by the immigration official and is entirely in Thai. This took a good 30 minutes and I was the only person at nong khai immigration

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the process of transferring a visa or extension of stay to a new passport in Thailand, particularly emphasizing the need to visit an immigration office for this procedure. Users share their experiences and clarify that although some have successfully transferred visas at borders or airports, recent enforcement of new rules suggests that transferring at immigration is the more reliable method. It's noted that two forms are required and that the process can take varying amounts of time depending on the immigration office.

As
@Lloyd *******
said nothing new. Extentions need to be transfered at immigration

There is no new rule, extensions need to be transferred, visas are not transferred, you carry both passports. Again, confusion because of incorrect terms.

I think the (basic) rules were there already (because I heard that you need to go to immigration office to transfer your stamp to new passport long time ago - no proof sorry). They might just start enforcing that more recently, could be any date.., wild guess.

Amy Baron I just heard that you need to go to IO office to transfer the stamp long time ago. I edited.

I'm not sure because I haven't got into this situation myself. But someone I know went to Chaengwattana a few years back.

as far as i know (for the past 5 years or so at least) you have always needed to transfer your stamp.

the question is, where can you have it transferred? ive always done it at bkk. the OP was not allowed to do it at the nong khai land border and was required to go to nong khai immigration.
Amy *******
im not sure when this new rule started... i did go through bkk airport a few weeks ago with new passport and old, and the immigration counter (where you pay overstays etc) transferred the stamp without issue, then stamped me out from the new passport. (i did this procedure there in 2014 as well).

It would be so nice if some Immigration Officers join this Facebook page to inform Us with new rules.Thanks for the update, I will for sure not recommend this again and tell every one to transfer any stamp at Immigration.

I have done it at the border and not at immigration and it took all of 5 minutes. So it was not totally incorrect

I did it 3 weeks ago, that is fast, but not unheard of haha

They stopped you at the border and told you to transfer your 30 day Extension of Stay first before they let you leave the country?
