Robert, after the valid until date, if I’m in the country, wouldn’t I be in violation of immigration rules by not having a valid visa? Wouldn’t that technically be an overstay at that point?
Tod, not trying to run myself off the rails, trying to see if it’s possible. So far I haven’t seen any documentation that shows me in black and white that it isn’t possible. The stamps in the passport that you mention are in color 😉. I’m looking for source documents while at the same time wondering out loud why Thailand would prohibit such an experienced group of people from freely donating their time for a good cause. If it’s a misapplication of what is ‘work’ then maybe that’s something that can get changed in the future. But I have to have a reference before I can determine any next steps.
I think I’ll add a separate letter in my application and ask if or how it might be possible to volunteer at a local village school while in Thailand on an O-A visa.
Gotcha! Yes, you’re right. But sometimes we put the fear of some religious entity into people and they think they’re going to jail, or worse, over minor infractions, which is of course possible lol. I do believe in following the rules and being polite rather than a privileged westerner when in Thailand and I’ve never had any problems.
Roger, when you go to immigration to extend your stay show them your airline ticket and ask if they can extend you to cover your departure date or if it will be a problem with a one day overstay. I suspect you will be told it’s just one day and won’t be a problem. Feel free to ask what will happen when the police pull over your taxi as you’re heading to the airport, one day overstay.
