TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to Thailand with a re-entry permit under a retirement extension (such as an O-A visa), it is generally not required to show proof of 20,000 baht in cash. However, experiences vary, and some expats suggest carrying the cash as a precaution due to the changing immigration policies. Those with annual extensions typically aren't inquired about proof of funds, while it is more common for multi-entry visa holders to be asked for proof upon re-entry.

My extension is based on marriage and I have never been asked. That said, I always have it right one just in case. You never know here.

Okay,here's how it's really written;

IF you are on a valid VISA (like a Non-O or a Non-O-A) <- meaning you have NOT gotten a yearly extension you CAN be required to show proof of 20K baht CASH when you enter the country.

IF you are on a yearly extension (or really an extension of ANY length of time) there are no requirements in the rules to show proof of funds.

So to answer the O/P's question when on an extension of stay based on being over 50 (retirement) there is no requirement to show proof of funds.

I have never ever even heard of someone on a yearly extension being asked :/ BUT I have heard of people being asked for proof of funds when stamping in on year-long, multi-entry Non-O visas <- where you bounce out and in every 90 days for another 90 day stamp..

I hate to apply the common sense rule as TiT but you already qualified for the O-A visa so it would make no sense for them to need to see any of the three proofs. They don’t apply to that visa after it’s been issued and while still in effect.

I know, that’s what makes Thailand so crazy... and fun! But you’ve already met the financial requirement for the visa. If they ask to see 20k baht every time you come back you don’t really have an O-A visa. A stretch, even for Thailand me thinks.

Probably not

Thing is you already shown your proof of income etc during the extension of stay application for retirement, marriage etc. So having a re entry permit based on that is all good. I have been in/out with no hiccups past years.

I agree with you...but I will carry 20,000 with me just in case asked. Be prepared. Its clear times are changing with Thai Immigration.

I never have been asked when using reentry permit. But might it be wise in these changing immigration times to have 20,000 Thb or equivalent in cash on you ? I will.
