I did my first extension of stay yesterday at Phetchabun Immigration so still on the 800K in the bank method. I asked them and they said code is ok but as people on here will testify another person a different answer lol. Hopefully someone else with KrungThai using monthly method can confirm for us

100% my Thai wife’s family are just laughing at the banks. They have the same feeling towards all of them. Many Thais are taking their money out. Worrying times for the Thai banking system. This has potential to cause a run the same as 2008 where some banks went under.

depends where you are. I’m in Phetchabun Province. They refused me a Yellow house book because I’m not married to a Thai local. Rental contract made no difference

yeah. I’ve see this letter. I bank with them. My original comment is nothing to do with that.

The recent incident in Pattaya involving BB staff gained a lot of media attention. It’s only natural that banks revise and update their SOP’s. The difference here is see is that some responses may seem draconian to westerners. Where groups like this are invaluable is that they can give personal on the ground and timely information to see if the landscape is changing….. or not. BB has taken a lot of criticism on these groups recently but it appears from others that other banks are also revising their SOP’s. If you’re about to apply for an extension of stay it’s pretty useful to understand the current environment.

I only recently arrived here. On a NonO for retirement. I had everything that was required of me to open. Bank account. However it took me 3 days of constant travelling to open one. Those people that been here a while kept on telling me me I was wrong and there is no issue. There where. Quite a few posts from other people having EXACTLY the same issues. The landscape has changed.

I absolutely agree with the comments in Bangkok Bank. It’s obvious. They got burnt and are doing due diligence. Their way of doing that is not the same practices many western countries would adopt so it’s understandable people would see something that isn’t.

Again. I refer to my point that most are new arrivals are the people that are experiencing some issues not the established groups. Adding quotations remarks to comment doesn’t make them any more irrelevant I assure you. I was constantly getting told by people that I was wrong, yet there I was getting turned away by numerous banks.

Oh just to add just because I’m in this group doesn’t make me more or less real than any other groups.

I’m happy for any advice that helps me navigate some of the complexities living in a foreign country. I’m certainly not naive or stupid enough to hang my hat on it. It just helps to get an understanding of the situation on the ground at any given time.

it’s advice. Some dodgy bad advice but plenty of good advice. It matters not to me who owns it as long as it helps. And most of what I’ve seen Brandon relay has been spot on. Some of it, i,e what led me to comment on is just relaying of other peoples experiences. By doing that any trends can be identified. Some of the worst comments are those who just kick that into touch. I’m new here and the one thing I find most striking in this group is that there’s a body of contributors that have been in Thailand a long time that refute comments and experiences from newly arrived people. It’s plainly clear that things have changed dramatically over the last few months if not weeks. Those going through those changes now are the most valuable contributors in this group.

some utterly bizzare responses on here. I’m pretty sure Connor was referring to using the 65K a month method which negates the need for 800K locked in an account

Too much hate
