I am happy to stay within the laws. And I am not hurting their economy. On the contrary I am pumping thousands of Baht directly into their economy every month. Would be so good if their where visas that reflected that.
If I am working locally, and taking a job someone a Thai person might fulfil, then I am grateful that their government is protecting their people.
But if I am not, and I have a proven record of conducting myself with respect for the country it would be nice to not have to skirt the edges like this.
Thanks everyone. I have a bus ticket to Penang, my receipt for rent paid, and I'll have the

B in cash on me (did I just put a target on my back for pick pocketing?). Guess I just have to be friendly and hope for the best. I am landing at 23:00-ish. Could work for or against me as well. Hopefully my next update is not from a detention room :)
ตนลสกพ ดหพีย thanks for detailed information. I guess if I have proof of onward travel, rent in chiang mai and the money in cash there isn't much I can do except be friendly and hope for the best. Sawadeee Krap 🙏
Thanks :) Not super excited about spending more time in Macau than absolutely necessary. Do you have an idea what my options will be from there? Get a tourist visa? Or will that be refused for the same reason?
Thanks! Ok, I thought that you can only do 180 days per year. I have been doing visa exemption all year - building up the courage to commit to a year of learning Thai.
I have an apartment in Chiang Mai. I can take my rental contract there. Hopefully I can also find an onward ticket that I can cancel again.
Thanks a million Tod. Much appreciated! You guys are incredible. Ended up booking a quick same day return to Macau. Going to forgo the tourist visa this time in favour of just the visa exemption and do a one day Mae Sai run in December.
I'm from RSA. I've done 3 border runs to Mae Sai. Two last year. Haven't had a problem. Obviously the rules can change. I've heard that Thailand won't let you out if Myanmar won't accept you. Also, isn't it the case that you don't get a visa for Myanmar, just a day pass?
