So I've been in Thailand for nearly 2 years on tourist visas/visa exemptions. Never had a problem... until now.
Just arrived in Bkk from Singapore. Only wanted a Visa exemption as I'll be going back to England within 60 days.
I got stopped and pulled aside to talk with the supervisor, although he only spoke to my gf in Thai. Questioned how long/why I stay here etc. Never asked for any proofs although I had them if necessary. Eventually stamped me in for my 30 days but told me I would have to marry my gf if I wanted to stay longer.
I'll be going back to England for 6 weeks. Do you think I'll be ok to enter with a tourist visa obtained from London? Or am I literally blocked from entering Thailand again without being married to a Thaii? Or will it just depend on the immigration officer on the day? I'll only need 90 days to sort out my stuff here.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is worried about their entry into Thailand after being questioned by immigration officials who suggested that they marry their Thai girlfriend to stay longer. They are contemplating obtaining a tourist visa from the UK before returning to Thailand but are unsure about their re-entry prospects. The community discussion offers various suggestions, including applying for a multiple-entry visa, considering other visa types like an Education or NON-O visa based on marriage, having proof of funds and accommodation ready, and emphasizing that the decision ultimately rests with the immigration officer.

The cost are to high for all this. Why pay agents if you can do it all yourself. After seeing his facebook page, he really has two options to stay legal in Thailand. Marry his girlfriend and get the Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage with a Thai National and a Work Permit. Or get the Non Immigrant B visa and the work permit. Cost of Visa 2.000 Thb, cost of Work Permit 3.800 Thb.
Jamie having made a phone call you have effectively have 5 options.
1. Apply for an Education visa, this would have to be done through an agent. 70,000Bht annually.
2. Apply for an ELITE 5 Year VISA cost 500,000Bht.
3. Marry your young lady apply for extention Thai Wife.
To conduct this you will need to do a affirmation of freedom to marry at the British embassy Bangkok, have your passport verified as well. Total cost for these approx 4000Bht.
In addition prove you have 40,000Bht income per month or annual equivalent,
This done via post to British Embassy cost approx 2000Bht.
Have Translations of passport and Affirmmation completed 2000Bht

Ironically the U.K. scrutinises individuals that may have married for a visa, it seems the opposite is true in this case 😮 can you imagine a U.K. immigration officer telling your gf to marry you so she could stay in the UK longer? 🤭
The days of living here on back-2-back 30 day visa exempt entries or tourist visa entries are fast comin' to a close. More and more people are getting pulled aside and questioned. About all you can do is have the 3-proof-ofz and roll with it.
It will depend on the IO on the day as there is no rule or limit to entries by air on Visa exemptions or tourist visas. Have 3 proofs as Robert recommended.
Dan Goodwin 20k THB cash or same in other currency, proof of accommodation and flights out of Thailand. These may NOT be asked for, but any or all can be asked for at any time, especially if the IO wants to question the reason for your entry into Thailand.
Getting a new passport to 'erase' any previous entries went out the window the moment they out everything online. 6 month visa is a good recommendation for a long stay and mutiple entries.
It's common these days at airports for visa exemption folks.
The military top echelon are seeing their pot of gold missing soon after the elections, so there is a thirst to drive us all to purchase the elite visa.
Just bear with the "system" for a while. As soon as election is over next year. Visa exemption folks probably get the usual 60' days stamp like we used to, years ago.
Nobody get the usual 60' day stamp as Visa Exempt Entry. Also the rest of your comment is something nice to talk about in bars but not based on any fact.
You're not banned. Do as Robert Lagas advises. Oh, and remove "Lives in Koh Chang" from your Facebook - that kinda makes it obvious what you're up to, u know ;)
a visa arranged in UK isn't a guarantee of entry.....they can still stop you from coming in if they want to. Get a new passport and/or marry your g/f. (y)
The OP has been flagged at immigration, a new passport wont help him or change that. It will be down to immigration when he arrives if he's let in or not, regardless of having a tourist visa.
A Yes. B Yes. C Yes. Everything is online. New passport has zero affect on entry into Thailand. The only affect it has is for applying for visas in neighbouring countries as they do not have an online database.
which ever you want it to be , but flying with a mee passport works i have had 5 friends do it one that had overed stayed more than you would think even possible
I know and it works perfect. All Immigration Offices, entry and exit points are connected. The time that only tourist where allowed to have access to internet, have a smart phone and a laptop are long gone.
Yes, immigration has a database. Changing the passwort helps at the consulate / embassy, because they only go through the pages in the current passport to decide if they give a visa or not, but it won't help when entering the country.
Why a new passport, it will be linked to the old passport in the Thai Immigration Database. Marriage wil also not change this database, so your statement a visa isn't a guarantee of entry stays the same.
If you get a SETV in London, it should not really be an issue as long as you have Return Ticket within the validity of your stay and funds. They still might question you but don't think it should be an issue.
Maybe a slight issue as you want to stay in the country for more than 60 days, but if your ticket is within the 90 days, you might not have a problem. Down to the immigration officer.
Maybe don't return this year ;-)
Maybe use new Passport although they still see on the screen when and how often you've been in Thailand in the past.
Get married. Slavery isn't to bad with the right girl ;-)
