There are no restrictions on any person carrying money in or out of Canada.

CIBC will transfer practically any amount to a Thai Bank free of charge and if you use a visa aeroplan card you get miles and the bonus is that it counts as a transaction and not a cash advance. Takes 3 or 4 days and there is no risk. You can actually carry any amount you want to but you have to tell customs and immigration.

Totally agree with Brandon. It may well depend on what airline you will be using. Best advice get an onward ticket before you leave there are plenty of cheap tickets available on Air Asia and others.
