TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can visit Laos for a short period and then return to Thailand to receive a new 30-day visa exemption if you hold a passport from a country on the visa exemption list. This can even be done quickly, such as within 20 minutes at the border. However, you can only do this up to two times a year at land borders. Additionally, if you haven't already extended your initial 30-day stamp, you can apply for a 30-day extension at your local immigration office without needing to leave Thailand.

Does any of you know if there is any problem with doing the suggested (crossing the border to Laos from Thailand by land and then crossing back) when one was on an educational visa?

You can go for 10 minutes and come back. I've spent from 30 minutes to 30 days.

Why not stay 2 or 3 days you will enjoy it and I am sure the laoations will appreciate.

Depends on the border

the is no such thing as laoations. The people are Lao. The language is Lao. The country is Lao PDR.
Christopher *************
Actually you are wrong the Collective for the people of Laos is LAOTIANS. The word you used is a total misconception. I suggest that you look it up 'sage-answers.com'

FYI, If you haven't already extended your 30 days stamp, you can do that once for a further 30 days at your local immigration office, 1900THB. No need to leave Thailand πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡

Flying out and back when you need it always works.

true about the IO, but I've been coming to Thailand since 2008 and have never been questioned about anything...except once when I forgot to put my Thai address on the arrival form.

@Robert ****
except it is flying back in to DM , Suv or Phuket airports where many are being stopped and questioned nowadays.

@Nigel *************
many are being stopped and questioned for what? Do you realize it's an immigration officers job to scrutinize documents and ask questions?

each and every passenger and IO is different. Depends on which IO you stand in front of when u arrive. Travel history questions always.

Spend some time in Laos πŸ‡±πŸ‡¦ as it is well worth a visit and stay....

@Dave ******
Depends on what border crossing. Chiang Khong has absolutely nothing on the other side.

@Dave ******
Agree 100%.

Don't need to stay a day.

I've crossed into Lao and back in as few as 20 minutes and was stamped back in

Just walk around the house as quick as you got your Lao visa and out of Laos again, take bus to Thailand border!!!

If you have a passport from a country that receives visa exempt then you'll receive 30 days each time you enter Thailand without a visa.

You can only do this at a land border 2 times per year though.

@Brandon ***********
depends on the country you are from. some only get 2 weeks and others 6 month or a year

@Jeffrey *********
I specifically said a passport from a country that receives visa exempt. Every visa exempt is 30 days. No passport in the world receives more than 90 days without a visa.
