I spent 30 days in siem reap cambodia for mine which took 3 weeks. Got to know a lot about Angkor wat and khmer history. Was very relaxing. Go somewhere you havent been and enjoy the wait.

0 before and season. Extend for 12 months. Leave after 6 months with reentry permit. Come back and extend before 12 months is up. So you can stay 6 months every year no issue and 6 months in uk.
you can do that but just wont be able to extend next time. The next extension will look at the balance over the whole year. If you fail this test you can start all over with a new non o 90 day from overseas.
I get fined 800 baht if i stay in bangkok for a month without tm30 and then do my tm30 at my regional immigration for my visa extension. Even though i do the tm30 within 24 hours of arriving here.
I am not sure that you can go in whilst the application is processing. In Aust immigration applications they cannot approve an outside applied application if you are in the country. And the Aust immi know all that on their system. So it might be a lottery. But when you find out for sure please let us know for reference.
Main thing is not to return to Thailand during the application. As long as you are outside that box is ticked. If you are in outside country A and apply and then go to B and then return to A and come in who would care? They don't own you once you are outside which is the main criteria and you applied at the correct place at the time of application. So how would they know if you went to B anyway?
