Anonymous participant also, as a FYI, there are 4 consulates in the US and each has different requirements. Might want to ask for specific feedback for the consulate you will use.
I think it is two-fold. There are those who have been here a long time and had it harder to get visas, who now are disgruntle, and then there are, as you said, DTV holders who I don’t think they see themselves superior, but worried that the government will cancel the DTV.
- You were able to get ahold of the embassy? The consular section is responsible for both visas and support for Thai nationals in Cambodia. The Thai government banned Thai citizens from crossing the border into Cambodia to work in the casinos and entertainment venues, due to fear for their safety. This issue is something that falls under the consular section. They are probably spending a lot more time information gathering, etc., so they can get Thai nations in Cambodia informed. Furthermore, 95% of visa applicants will be Cambodians. The policy changed last week from 60 day visa exempt to 7 days. This means even more Cambodians now need visas. So, yes, while they might not be involved in high level diplomacy, there are a lot of things going on that impact their section.
Anonymous participant - looking back on old posts, it seems people have been submitting and being approved with 3 months at HCMC consulate for a long time
