What should I do if I received a tourist visa instead of a DTV visa?

Confused. I applied for a DTV visa around a month ago and some days ago i just got a mail saying ”Approved” but when i check it says that i have a tourist visa?

Do anyone in here knows what this means? Is this a DTV visa or did i get a normal tourist visa instead?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user applied for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) but received a notification of approval for a tourist visa instead. Several commenters clarified that the DTV is essentially a type of tourist visa valid for 180 days; however, the user expected a different processing outcome. They suggested contacting the embassy to clarify the situation, as it appears a mistake may have occurred during the application process.

You got a multi entry tourist visa instead, not a DTV.

The exact thing happened to me. It really sucks. They advised to use the METV first, then apply elsewhere again. Bear in mind you need to leave by the exit date on your passport / extend at immigration, you can not stay in Thailand for 6 consecutive months.

Anonymous participant 523 maximum stay upon entry with METV is 60+30, then leave, rinse and repeat

You can get 9 months out of that one. Milk it and apply again at a more favourable place.

Write the embassy where you applied to an E-Mail or write them on Line (the embassy in Cambodia has a Line account and other embassies might have one too) and ask them, how it could be that you got approved for a Visa you didn't apply to? You applied for DTV, they can't just convert the Visa, but you can ask them that too. Mistakes can happen everywhere, but don't say: you made a mistake, just ask questions and be polite. Good luck

If you had got a mail that your application was rejected, you would have lost all 10.000 baht fee.

Now you at least got a little value for your money.

Metv makes more sense if 6 month soft power. But seems unfair to get more strict on visa when others received visa on 2 dentist appointments or 2 weeks cooking school. They either then to cancel the visa or change it.

In this case they should inform the OP and refund the money right? Or what does this longterm visa cost?

The DTV application fee is NON-refundable no matter the outcome of the application.

It is clearly stated on most Thai Embassy websites, that the fee is non-refundable.

The OP can be happy that he at least got a ME-TV, so all of the 10.000 Baht has been lost.

If used clever, a ME-TV can give up to 9 month stay in Thailand.

No refund, some embassies even mention on their website that in case they provide another visa as applied for the difference in fee will not be refunded.

It is your own responsibility to apply for the correct visa.

No refunds. You are paying for the process and not for the Visa.

all visa applications are non-refundable, regardless of outcome.

Instead of just denying his application, they gave him a 6 month tourist visa.

- Unfortunately they don’t. If they reject you for the visa you applied for, you never get refunded.

Try to contact the embassy and ask if they made a mistake as you applied for a different visa. They might correct the error or tell you that you are indeed not eligible in their eyes for the DTV. In which case you can always try again through a different country.

Might have another problem elsewhere. Recently Vietnam would not process someone with METV until it expired.

True, but he has an METV he can use first, then when that expires go to a neighbouring country and apply for DTV again.

I can see neighbouring countries getting more difficult. Immigration seem to have their tails in the air about it. There is politics at play. Anutin has been leading raids on short term rentals. Some of the properties raided are interesting but that is all I am posting here

No, "Valid Until" should be a date 5 years from "Valid from", and visa type should say: DTV. That's how mine is. They made a mistake or just gave him a short term tourist visa

We have seen this same thing from a few Embassies ie giving a METV instead of DTV if in their discretion it is more appropriate. It is not a mistake it is deliberate.
