it is the same marriage laws that cover straight couples. It is just being updated to same sex couples, so unless they included specific language to exclude farang, it would be the same.

This is Thailand we're talking about. Nothing is clear when it comes to foreigners compared to thai nationals.

Nothing mentioned yet, going to be very interesting to see how they do it as a woman married to a thai man has a far easier time with visas and citezenship applications

I don't think the government has even started planning for this yet. They have a lot they still need to figure out, especially when it comes to foreign women married to Thai men having no financial requirement for retirement visa. What does this mean for same sex marriage and Thai visas. With all the new proposed visa measures making the news, I would bet that has them busy enough to not even be considering it yet.

- My thoughts as well. However, once the King signs off and posted in the Royal Gazette, it is only time before it is formalized and applications start to come in. Embassies are probably going to have to make decisions without formal guidance. I assume they will treat foreign men marrying local Thai men the same way that they do with financial requirements, but not sure how they will handle foreign women marrying Thai women.

actually there are already some embassies that will issue a marriage visa for same sex marriage if it's recognized in the country the embassy is in. The problem is that it's not recognized by immigration for extensions, so it's not a valid way to stay in Thailand. Immigration is where the policies need to come, not so much the embassies.

Good to know. Been with the same partner for 9 years. I am American, but we have been based in Cambodia for work since 2019. Didn’t realize if we got married in the US, we could have gone for the initial 12 months.
