Lane Hughes. There's no such thing as a 30-day Visa On Arrival. What you actually had was a visa exemption stamp. Its standard practice to get a 30-day extension on this for 1900baht. No need for your surprise. People have been doing this for years!

George Marinkovich. Used to be able to get them down Khao San Road a few years back. People think the police are not real smart. A friend of mine produced one a few years back at police checkpoint. The cop laughed at him and said "Khao San Road? 500 baht fine". 😆

Genuine volunteer visa no problem. If it was a bogus agency volunteer visa it's highly unlikely. They've wised up to what's been going on.
