The 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account are a good emergency fund. They are instantly accessible. Many people rant against parking so much money into a Thai bank account that offers almost no interest.
My opinion is: these 800,000 THB are your parking ticket for a country where you can live for less than half the money you would need for paying living expenses in your home country.
This opportunity comes at minimal costs, and the interest people who use agents claim they would lose, is peanuts compared to the advantages.
Todd McGowan which "problems" are you talking about? I did my 90-days visa and the 1-year extension all by myself. $80 USD and 1900 THB later I got my 1-year stay permit stamped
Dave Owen the bank letter that proves the 2-months seasoning, or the 12-months statement, are a common thing, well known in banks who deal with foreigners. 17 years ago, though, it took a bit of explaining when I asked my SCB bank branch in the Isaan for the first time, as they had no experience with such an application from a foreigner. In Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Phuket and Samui, generally banks are more familar with it
Kar Campbell bringing cats and a container with stuff is not connected to your visa. However I would wait with both until you got issued the 12-months extension, buy a re-entry permit for it and fly back and only then return with the cats. Be aware many home owners and condominium managements do not allow pets in their premises. First you need to find a pet friendly landlord
Robert Harrington yes, the marriage visa is a bit more complicated, however it is not rocket science. You only need to prove either 400,000 THB deppsit or income of 40,000 THB
Stephen Cooper if you have accumulated 12 months of transfers to show when you apply to the 1-year follow up extension, after being issues the extension you can withdraw the 800K from the account. But unless you are still ahead of the application you need to show 800.000 THB in your account for 2 months on the very day you apply
