Simon Roberts sorry that is not true. It remains the responsibility of the house master.

Joiner Man great argument, without agents corrupt officials would be poor.

Personally I prefer to spend my money on those that deserve it.

Matt Sheumack I am afraid you are 100% wrong. If you can show Thai legislation to support your claim I will stand corrected.

Michael is very experienced in Thai Immigration laws and practices.

A number of people are recommending that you leave Thailand and then re-enter just before your visa (not remain until date) expires. You will be stamped in for 1 year or the date you have insurance for. So it will be worth purchasing 1 years medical insurance before you leave Thailand.

Jeff Grossman it depends on where you are therefore which immigration office you apply to. Most immigration offices allow you to apply when you have 30 or less days on your current right to remain stamp.

Three major offices that are exemptions are Bangkok and Chaing Mai who allow you to apply either 45 days or less remaining and Chonburi (Jomtien) that only allows you to apply when you have 7 or fewer days remaining.

Anett Miehle I understand that your originally post says you are arriving in Thailand in the next week then it is unlikely to change before Friday. Friday is the day changes to Thai law are normally posted in the Royal Thai Gazette. So changes are unlikely before Friday 27th.

You have a lot of answers most saying that nothing as changed as of today. Unfortunately that doesn't help you in your planning.

It really depends on how long your visit is going to be. Let me try to summarise.

If you are travelling in the next 7 days it may me too late to do anything so just travel and work things out when you get here.

Visit less than 30 days. Do nothing the proposed change won't affect you.

Visit between 30 and 60 days. You have two options, firstly apply for a single entry tourist visa. If approved you will be given permission to remain for 60 days when you arrive in Thailand. This is regardless of any change to the visa exempt scheme.

Secondly come without a visa and hope the change hasn't been implemented. If it has then you will need to apply for a 30 day extension within Thailand.

Visit between 60 and 90 days. Apply for a tourist visa and extend for 30 days.

Longer than 90 days and you will need to look at one of the many other visa options open to you.
