Passport, Visa Certificate, Proof of Residency (Signed rental contract), 2 colour passport photos for each certificate (if you are needing both car and motorbike licences, you need a certificate of residence for each at 500THB each)
My recent car and motorbike licence application experience, and documents requested:
* Passport
* Visa Certificate
* Medical Certificate
* Host country driving licence with IDP
* Certificate of Residence from Immigration (need Passport, visa, proof of residence, 2 passport photos, and note : you need separate certificates for a car and motorbike licence at 500 THB each)
* Receipt of confirmation that I completed the online driving course-in my phone)
* Completed several practical response tests.
* Collected both car and motorbike licences for 10THB each.
Regretfully, this is what happens when certain groups abuse the banking system by laundering money from illicit sources, and worse still arrange for locals to open mule accounts. Hopefully, when the banks clean up these illicit accounts, and confidence returns, the rules will gradually relax. In the meantime, at least the option is there to arrange larger transfers with your bank branch.
I obtained my car and motocycle licences after providing the following documents :
* Passport.
* Host country licence in English linked to IDP, but the host licence was the important part.
* Visa Certificate
* Certificate of Residence (one certificate per licence and each certificate cost 500THB. (passport, proof of residence , visa certificate, 2 passport photos for each certificate to be shown)
* Medical Certificate specifically for a driving licence application.
* Complete online one hour course, and show the confirmation receipt from my smart phone.
* Once my document check was complete, I was asked to do some practical reaction tests, and was then issued my two licences for 10THB each.
The DLT I visited asked to see my original documents from which copies were taken except the original Certificate of Residences which they retained.
Copy of Visa, Copy of Rental Agreement, copy of TM 30 may be useful too but not essential if you have a signed rental agreement, Passport, 4 Passport Photos (can get at kiosk by immigration), 500THB per certificate of residence, TM16 will be given to you at immigration to fill out.
WP LTR-Visa is the golden visa but the conditions to be met are strict, and it's 5+5 years meaning at the 5-year point, a check will be made to ensure you still meet the financial criteria. The BOI will pose questions during the application process to ensure the applicant can meet the LTR-visa requirements over the 10 year period.
