fwiw, I've read that you don't need proof of residency for DTV but just proof that you are staying in the country from which you apply -- ie, a hotel booking

Yeah unfortunately "stamp" and "certified" mean different things for different embassies so UK services and Canadian services are different.

I will already be there so that was the first reason. Honestly, we will probably end up going somewhere else for these reasons.
