DTV E-Visa application SUCCESSFUL 🙌🏻

Place of issue: Hanoi

This story has a few ups and downs so I hope it might help some of you to plan better and avoid stupid (expensive) mistakes.

We are a family of 3. My husband applied first and me and our son got the visa through his.

The first thing that went wrong was that just a few days before we arrived in Hanoi, they switched to the E-Visa system. We had read that it was easier and faster in Hanoi compared to KL (that’s why we decided to come to Hanoi), but in the end, it took just as long, and we had to stay in Hanoi for 2 weeks instead of the 5 days we had planned… so that was the first setback.

My husband applied online, and they responded within 5 days. A stupid system error, an automatic reading of the passport, entered an incorrect middle name, and because of that, they canceled the visa. He had to reapply (and pay the fees again). A day later, his visa was approved.

That same day, we applied for mine and our son’s, and it took 5 business days to be granted, with nothing to add or correct (there was also a national holiday in the middle).

Important Documents for the family visa: notarized translation of the birth certificate and marriage certificate, a bank account in my name with 500,000 baht (different from the one my husband used).

Honestly, I didn’t know if a notarized translation was needed but I didn’t want to risk to get denied for that.

If we had known that you could only apply online, my husband would have come alone, and my son and I would have come once he had the visa.

We would have saved a lot on flights and hotel nights if we had done that.

Hope it helps!!

Good luck to all of you ☘️

got my DTV approved in Hanoi using soft-power medical route...

- had my money in savings accounts. Which the lady at the desk thought might be a problem. Because it didn't have any transactions going in and out etc. But I wrote a short note explaining there weren't any transactions because it was a savings account. And also printed out a screenshot from my bank's website showing that the funds were fully accessible (i.e. not a fixed savings account or anything) and that was fine

- for the medical stuff, I showed copies of the paperwork I'd received from the hospitals I'd been to. Proving previous appointments, an appointment booked for when I flew back, and general proof of ongoing care in Thailand

- the bank notes I got from the exchange place at chiang mai airport. i was a bit worried because they weren't "perfect". But they were flat and didn't have any tears or writing/marks etc and she accepted them no problem

- it took a couple of days longer than the 2-3 days advertised. And I sent an email chasing things up. I was going to go down there in person and see what was happening, but then I woke up and there was an approval email in my inbox

Everything else was just the standard paperwork i'd seen you needed: proof of flight to thailand, proof of address in Vietnam, proof of address in Thailand, photocopy of my passport (picture page and the vietnam visa page), and the application form itself

It's also worth mentioning to be aware of the lunch break times there. I booked my appointment for 1.30pm and turned up about 20 minutes early in case it was busy or something. But it was shut for lunch, so I just had to sit outside in the rain like a plonker

May I know is there anyone who apply DTV visa from Hanoi, Vietnam? How’s their service there ? I saw bad reviews in Google and I’m scared to apply 😭 what if they reject for no reason? 😭

Another question: I’m about to apply in Next Wednesday. Do you think I will get the visa in Friday since visa working day is 1-3 days?

Just got a Non O visa in Hanoi based on being a dependent of my son. Hassle free and no issues with any paperwork. I was concerned that it could be a problem that my surname is different from my sons on his birth certificate but no problems at all. However as I have already had 2 ED visas from Hanoi I was told that I couldn’t come back a 4th time.

Just wondering if anyone has gotten a 60 day tourist visa from Hanoi recently? How was the experience? Specifically for any Australians out there.
