Can children be covered by a parent's ED visa or do they require their own education visa?
Answer summary
In Thailand, children require their own education visa (ED visa) or a dependent visa based on the parent's visa status. While a parent can apply for a dependent visa for their children once their own ED visas are approved, it is generally more beneficial for children to obtain their own ED visas, which allows the parent to acquire a guardianship visa or extension based on that visa. Schools may have different policies regarding support for dependent visas, especially between educational institutions like universities and language schools.

We are here under Ed visas for a language school and our children received their own dependent visas. We applied for them immediately after our Ed visas were approved.

It is much better for the child to be on an ED visa, then the parent gets a guardianship visa/extension based on that child. You personally can then go to school on any visa. You don't need an ED visa to go to school.

Kool Breez Oh really? We want to be here for at least a year. We homeschool and want to take language course. Are you saying that we can enroll or kids in a language school that will organize the ED visa for them, and then we the parents can get a tourist visa extension for a year?

Danica Mor No, with a language school you can Not have any dependants piggybacking on the ED visa. A child under 15 can never be fined for overstay. They just enter on a tourist entry, then just stay here, with no overstay penalty. Also, be fully aware that legally you must extend your language school ED visa every 90 days with the documents from the school stating you are attending classes regularly, and making acceptable progress.

Everyone in Thailand requires their own permission to stay. There are some cases where one person can sponsor a visa or extension for someone else, but that's still a separate permission to stay.

You would need to check with your school to see if they support dependant visas of their students (possible for universities, not possible for language schools or Muay Thai). If the child is attending school in Thailand they should be able to qualify for their own visa through the school.

we are ed visas under a language school and have a dependent tied to each of our visas. They were just proved at the end of last month.

LavenderPhoenix4904 that's surprising and incredibly rare. Very few language schools are willing to do that
