We are a married couple in our mid 50's and hoping to retire/move to Thailand in a few years. Would it be a good idea to open a SCB bank account now and start depositing money or just save in the UK banks until we are ready?

yes I've searched the archives and they quickly age and become less relevant. Same old question re: bank account opening and or finding an affordable agent. I got one quote from agent to get visa for 70000 baht, which isn't going to happen. I've been in Thailand about two months and have received an extension on my 30 day and bounced to vietnam coming back New Years eve.

Question, how do you fund your life in Thailand

I don’t mean via a pension/ wage etc, and I am not referring to money transfer apps or third parties

IF your income is generated in your home Country which for me will be the UK (eg state or private pension)

I will be paid in English Pounds, yet my lifestyle will require Thai Baht

At the moment £1 is worth around 45thb, last week it might have been 39thb, next week it ‘could’ be 50thb

If you need say 75,000thb every month for your chosen Thai lifestyle, how do you do the

If I transfer £1600 every month, the amount I receive in Baht could be below the amount I need, if I transfer the equivalent of 75,000thb every month that could be more than my budgeted £1,600

How do you manage this please?

Hi , this is a bit of an " everything else " post . In the last 16 years i have spent approx 3 years on the ground in Thailand on the Tourist visa system . I have just this year obtained the Old Age Pension in Australia and can now leave the country and live overseas . Since coming of OAP age i have been in the "dreaming phase" about leaving this country and making the move to Thailand long term . But now things get a little more serious . I dont own my home , i rent , i'm single and have no dependants.

So now i am heading into the " Planning Phase " and suddenly there is a lot to consider , letting go of all my possessions ( car , motorbike , household goods ) How to maintain bank accounts and the reissuing of debit cards ( do they send them overseas ? ) , how and should i maintain my Aussie Drivers License , medical considerations ( i have no major medical problems , although the knees are starting to complain about the extra weight i am now carrying ) and many questions i haven't even thought of yet .

I'm sure i will find the answers to many questions on here and on the internet as a whole but the one thing i am interested in is the experience of people who have done this already and how they felt leaving everything behind . Any regrets , anything you forgot to do after leaving , how difficult or easy was it making the move . I have friends in Thailand , i speak a small amount of Thai and love the place in general so i am fairly comfortable over there . 👌

Hi just joined this group. Are there any Aussies living there who get the full old age pension? Just like to know if you ever have to return to Oz to continue getting the pension?
