Hello, we’re 4 Americans for the DTV Visa. I expect to get approved for my DTV via eVisa process through the Los Angeles Consulate. I made the mistake of not realizing the eVisa process is 15 business days and don’t have enough time in the States to apply for my Spouse and dependents before we head to Thailand. Therefore we need to pivot.

Now the plan is that I will enter with my DTV. It looks like we need to do an eVisa as a tourist visa for each of them before they arrive in Thailand. Can anyone confirm this? I’ve heard it just rolled out this month. I assume I will also need to show a flight of them leaving Thailand within 60 days on the day we enter.

We’re now looking at going somewhere in SE Asia to apply for their DTVs in that 60 day window. So far we’re looking at the consulates below. I know you need to book an appointment for several of them.

* Phnom Penh, Cambodia

* Vientiane, Laos

* Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Does anyone have a recommendation on what Consulate we should go to and if there is anything crucial we’re missing? Thanks in advance.

**ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS;

EDIT; (Oct 8th)

All three countries (Cambodia, Malaysia & Vietnam) are all online on the eVisa system.. !!

**The following Thai consulates in S/E Asia will go to online eVisa applications ONLY starting the 8th of Oct.

They will discontinue any walk up/in person visa applications at that time.

Actually some of them stopped accepting in person applications already and have consular services closed until they open on the eVisa system on Tuesday

Vietnam - Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City

Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Bharu

Cambodia - Phnom Penh

The follow consulates are NOT going online with the eVisa system, are still "walk up consulates" BUT you need to book an appt online to get in the gate

Lao - Vientiane, Savannakhet

Burma - Yangon

The following consulates are NOT going online with the eVisa system (at this time) and are "walk up consulates" no appt needed

Indonesia - Jakarta

Taiwan - Taipei

Philippines - Manila

Hi everyone,

I’m a USA citizen and want to do the DTV Muay Thai visa . I would like to do it in South East Asia. Someone told me that in Laos they require the 500,000 thb to be in the account for a minimum of 6 months. Does anyone have the experience of any consulate in south East Asia that doesn’t require it to be in there for 6 months. I was told that in Australia it wasn’t required.

Thank you in advance.

I'm about to come to the end of my contract with my employer and changing from non-b extension to a tourist visa..

I'm a UK citizen currently living in Chiang Mai but I'm not a huge fan of Vientiane.

Can anyone recommend another nearby venue or is it best to bite the bullet and put up with Vientiane??

Also what's the current turn around time for tourist visa applications in VN and elsewhere??

Thanks in advance...

Some info that might help others considering Hong Kong for a visa run:

The consulate in Hong Kong refused my (and my husband's) 60 day TV application based on "staying too long in Thailand". My visa history is: one 60day SETV, one 6month METV before that (with 3months out of Thailand between those), and one 6month METV from 2 years ago.

I had all documents including proof of exit flight and bank statement showing more than enough funds. The woman at the counter was immediately confrontational about why we were in Thailand and why we were going back even before seeing our passports.

Follow-up on recent post. I have just returned from Vientiane with a 60-day tourist visa. Looking ahead, I may have to again go for another tourist visa when this one expires. Would appreciate suggestions for most friendly destinations (where I might not be asked for a ticket for onward travel) and also a destination that is smooth in terms of travel, fair-priced accommodations, and relatively hassel-free. Thank you.
