Hi everyone!

I wanted to circle back and share my experience since I leaned on this group so much during my DTV application process. I submitted my application on 8/15/25 through the NYC Consulate (USA) and received approval on 9/13/25.

I applied as self-employed and included all the requested documentation along with a clear cover letter. I wasn’t asked for any additional information, and the process went straight through to approval. We’ll be flying out on 11/22 and are excited to begin our lease in Chiang Mai. If anyone has questions about the process, feel free to ask — happy to share what I can!

Hey, does anyone know what the better option for me is? I’m traveling to Vietnam and want to apply for the DTV visa from there. I’m self-employed / run a business in Germany, so I think I could qualify for that type of visa.

However, I only have 10 days in Vietnam before I want to return to Thailand. Would it be smarter to go with the Sports Visa since it’s faster? Also, what’s the cheapest option that actually works?

Thanks a lot!

I have very strange situation, my DTV is pending since 22nd April, 2025 and now on 8th July, 2025 it is showing pending approval. I sent three reminders with additional documents (which inlcude UK visit visa) but i have not received any reply. I read some posts which shows that after pending approval mostly applications get approve. I have applied from Embassy of Islamabad. My catagory might be change because i am self employed and provide legal consultations online to my clients.

I am travelling to UK, Serbia and Turkey in July. What should i do? Shall i go for vacation?

Shall i consider DTV approved or it can be rejected too. I have strong social media presence as well as requisite amount required for DTV lying in bank since last 2 to 3 years.

DTV approved from Vienna, Austria

Sharing my personal experience as a self-employed applicant:

I initially submitted all required documents. Then, step by step, I received additional requests – always for one new document at a time. First after one week, then again after two days, then again after three days. Examples included a motivation letter, a short business description (almost like a mini business plan), full-year company bank statements, and current client invoices.

I always attached a clear cover letter in English explaining everything in detail.

The process was slow and a bit frustrating. After my final document submission, I received no response for a full week. I tried calling at least 20 times over two days using 3 different numbers I found – no answer, only voicemail. One time someone picked up and immediately hung up again. Same experience as many reviews on Google Maps also reported.

I then sent two polite emails (one in German, one in English) to the Embassy asking kindly whether anything else was needed or if there were any uncertainties left, since I hadn’t heard back.

The next day, I received my approved visa by email.

In total it took exactly 3 weeks. I responded to all requests for additional documents on the same day.

I don’t know if the emails helped, but others in this group reported similar experiences. So maybe a polite reminder really does help.

Also, seeing that many others experienced the same long process with the Vienna embassy helped me stay calm – it seems they often ask for more documents, unlike other embassies where things go much faster.

Thanks to everyone who shared – that's why I’m sharing mine too.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share that I recently got my DTV approved from London as a South Korean national.

I applied twice — first at the RTE in Seoul, Korea, and then again at the RTE in London, UK.

1st Application – Seoul, Korea

My first try was in January 2025, in my home country. I didn’t prepare much in advance, and luckily, as a Korean national, I didn’t need to pay the visa fee.

A few weeks later, the embassy contacted me asking for additional documents. That’s when I realized it might be tricky to get approved as a remote worker.

I’m a self-employed writer with book-based contracts through Korean publishing companies. That setup didn’t quite match the document requirements they were asking for (which seemed more geared toward traditional remote jobs), so I decided not to pursue it further.

I left the application untouched. Eventually, it changed to “Finished” in April — exactly three months later. It wasn’t cancelled or rejected, just silently closed.

2nd Application – London, UK (Muay Thai Route)

I moved to London shortly after and submitted a new application at the RTE in London, this time under the Muay Thai soft power route.

As a non-UK citizen, in addition to the usual documents, I had to provide:

• UK residence permit

• UK bank statement

• Proof of address

No visa fee again.

I submitted all supporting documents, including my flight ticket, by March 19. The status changed to “Pending Approval” on March 20, and I received approval on April 18.

I’m not exactly sure why it took a month, but during the wait, I visited the RTE in person to ask about the delay. They asked for my flight schedule — I had a June departure — and told me it would probably be approved by May. Luckily, it came through earlier!

A Few Extra Notes:

• They asked me to submit a letter explaining what I do for work while in the UK.

I clarified that I’m self-employed, don’t work for a UK employer, and that the same would apply in Thailand.

• I included a description of my income sources, along with two Korean business certificates (translated into English): one for my writing business and one for my real estate rental income.

• I accidentally entered an intended stay of over 1,800 days in the form — but it didn’t seem to matter at all!

Thanks again, super group!

Wishing everyone smooth applications — and I hope to see some of you in Thailand soon!

Hi all I gonna be honest here:

My son and I are looking at the DTV for next August to go from UK. We will have the funds there but wanna ask few questions.

1. Is the funds (500,000baht) per person I be applying for myself and a dependent my son.

2. Can accommodation proof be the lease of a villa as we thinking get a base and then leave every 180 days for 30 days (we come back uk annually anyway) but thinking be nice have a place we not having to lug all our luggage all time as 30 days we could go via carry on easy.

3. Is it best to have the 3 months of bills payments on top the main funds or just have the main proof of funds.

I do content creation online so am self employed and will just submit my tax return or can I just send a portfolio of what I do charge etc.

This group was helpful when i prepared my application so i wanted to return the favor and share my experience with applying for DTV in phnom penh, cambodia.

I am a self employed developer and so I applied for workcation on Friday march 28 around 9pm. Visa approved today April 11. Exactly 14 days (2 weekends included) from application to approval.

I was previously on a spouse extention for 3 years and before that on ed visas. This seems to have not been an issue at all.

I was not asked for anything extra. My visa status was updated to "pending approval" on march 31 (first day after the weekend) and then went to "Approved" today. No news or changes in between.

Documents submitted:

I am a bit of an over preparer so I spend a good 4 days preparing 3 pdfs. Each pdf had a clickable table of contents and I highlighted a lot important information.

1. Proof of location.

- Scan of passport stamp arriving in cambodia

- I asked for payment receipt in the hotel and included it.

- Also included my e-boarding pass to cambodia

- added a cover letter to explain I flew from Bangkok to cambodia and that I understand I have to stay in cambodia until I receive a decision

2. Proof of financials

I flew out of Thailand on the same day that I applied for the visa. Flew in the afternoon and applied in the evening. Before leaving thailand, I went to kbank branch and asked for signed statements and a signed cover letter stating I have 500 000 baht in the account on the same day as the application. I provided 4 months statement but only 1 good month had the 500 000 in it. Before that the balance was just over 100 000. I do use the bankaccount daily or so they can see that.

- Signed and stamped bank statement from thai kbank

- signed and stamped cover letter from kbank

- payslips covering the same 4 months of the statement

- a coverletter in which I explain where my money comes from and also included a currency conversion table so they easily could understand the payslips in euro vs the bank statements in baht.

3. Proof of business.

I included a 27 page pdf to proof I have my own company. This pdf included:

- Coverletter of almost 3 pages.

- Employment contract to myself, signed by myself and it stated that I am allowed to work remote which I also highlighted.

- Proof of business incorporation in estonia.

- Result of my company financials of the last 5 years.

- Portfolio overview with a lot of screenshots and explanations and links to online sites to proof everything I was saying.

- Screenshots of my website and customer testimonials.

Super smooth for me in cambodia. Just have to be aware that it will take around 2 weeks. If you are fine with that then cambodia seems like the place to apply from.

Cheers.
