# *In-Depth Guide for anyone applying for Business DTV (2026)*
My timeline:
* Applied March 24 in the evening
* Embassy closed right after, from March 25–29
* Embassy reopened March 30
* Stayed on “Pending Document Check” for a while
* Moved to “Pending Approval” April 1 in the morning
* Approved April 2 late afternoon
* Entered Thailand April 3
So in my case, the application looked slow at first, but once you account for the embassy closure, the real processing time was only a few working days.
I submitted 3 PDFs total. I’m not posting my actual PDFs publicly for obvious privacy reasons, but if you’re applying for the DTV as a business owner / self-employed remote worker and want to see how I structured mine, feel free to message me. Happy to help.
# 1. Financial Evidence PDF
This was my proof that I met the financial requirement.
I had well over the required minimum, but my funds were not all sitting untouched for several months. Some of the funds were more recent / consolidated into one main account, around roughly a month or so. That still ended up being fine in my case.
I didn’t make a huge dramatic explanation about it. I just gave enough context so it didn’t look random.
My financial PDF included:
* short cover / summary page
* table of contents
* personal bank statement
* business bank statement
* secondary/supporting account statement
* currency conversion screenshot into THB
On the summary page I listed the accounts in a simple way, like:
* Main personal account — proof of funds
* Business account — business activity
* Secondary personal account — supporting funds
I also included a total available funds line showing that the combined amount was clearly above the DTV minimum.
The main thing here is: don’t make the officer calculate.
Highlight:
* your name
* statement date
* final balance
* relevant transactions if useful
* total balance
* currency conversion
I used a currency conversion screenshot for the total amount rather than converting every account individually. Cleaner and easier to read.
I also kept the explanation short. Something like “primary personal savings account, including recently consolidated personal funds” was enough.
No need to write a full essay explaining every bank movement unless something genuinely needs explaining.
# 2. Purpose / Work Documents PDF
This was the most important PDF for the business owner / remote work side.
Since I don’t have an employer, I needed to show that I actually own and operate a legitimate remote business.
This PDF included:
* statement of work and intent
* business overview
* services I provide
* business model
* client base
* operations explanation
* client work / experience
* examples of work
* payment / business activity proof
* client testimonial / recommendation letter
* company registration
* financial position / business support docs
The first page was basically a personal statement explaining:
* what my business does
* that I operate it remotely
* that clients are international
* that I don’t need to be physically in any specific country
* that I won’t work for Thai companies or seek employment in Thailand
I kept that page short and clear. Not emotional, not overdone.
Then I had a business overview section.
I explained:
* what type of business it is
* what services are provided
* how the business makes money
* how the work is delivered remotely
* where the clients are based
* that no business activities are conducted in Thailand
For services, I listed things like:
* digital marketing
* email marketing
* funnel / copywriting work
* social media growth
* website / systems work
* consulting
* operational support
Then I included a client work section.
I listed several examples of client work, but kept it professional. Not every client needs a huge explanation. Just enough to show there is real work happening.
For each example I included:
* client/project type
* country/market
* services provided
* short description of the work
* proof where useful
For work proof, I included examples like:
* screenshots of work I had done
* client project examples
* website work
* content / marketing examples
* performance screenshots
* payment proof where relevant
* testimonial link / client proof
I also included one client recommendation letter.
The letter confirmed:
* we had an ongoing professional relationship
* what services I provided
* that the work was remote/professional
* contact details if the embassy wanted to verify
I think this helped because it made the application feel more real and less like I just created a portfolio document myself.
At the end I included company registration and business support documents.
For that section I included:
* company registry document
* accounting / financial position document
* short explanation of what each document was
The key with this PDF is to make the officer understand your work quickly.
They shouldn’t need to wonder:
“What does this person actually do?”
“Who pays him?”
“Is this real?”
“Will he work in Thailand?”
Answer those questions before they ask.
# 3. Proof of Current Location PDF
This PDF was to prove I was actually in Vietnam and applying under Hanoi jurisdiction.
I included:
* cover page
* table of contents
* Vietnam entry proof
* boarding pass into Vietnam
* accommodation booking
* second accommodation booking because I was moving places
* local receipt
* selfie holding the receipt
* local presence proof
For the accommodation part, I included both bookings because I was staying in one place first and moving to another place in the same area later.
I added a simple explanation like:
“I am currently residing in Hanoi and will be moving to another accommodation within the same area in the coming days. For clarity, I have included booking confirmations for both stays.”
That was enough.
For the local proof, I used a coffee shop receipt and a selfie holding the receipt. Probably slightly overkill, but it made it obvious I was physically there.
Again, the whole point is just to remove doubt.
# Form filling notes
For the address section:
* current address = Vietnam accommodation
* permanent/home address = home country address
* Thailand address = intended address in Thailand
For occupation I put business owner / self-employed type wording.
For company/institute I used my company name.
For annual income I used a realistic annual estimate based on actual income, not some random inflated number.
For names, I followed the passport / MRZ logic. The system split my given names and surname automatically, and I checked it carefully before accepting it.
Big tip: don’t blindly trust autofill, but don’t fight it if it’s actually reading your passport correctly. Just verify every single field.
# Follow-up
I did send a polite follow-up email after the embassy reopened.
Nothing dramatic. Just a normal status inquiry with my request number and passport number.
I didn’t spam them. One clean follow-up was enough.
# Approval + entry
Once the status moved to “Pending Approval,” approval came fairly soon after.
When I entered Thailand, I checked the stamp carefully before leaving immigration.
Make sure it says DTV and make sure the admitted-until date is around 180 days.
Mine was correct, but it looked like it had been manually corrected, so definitely check before walking away.
# 90-day report reminder
After entering Thailand, set your TM47 / 90-day report reminders immediately.
Don’t rely on memory.
Set reminders around:
* when the reporting window opens
* a week before due date
* the actual due date
* final warning date
# Main lessons
The application does not need to be fancy.
It needs to be clear.
My biggest takeaway:
Make the officer’s job easy.
For each PDF, I tried to make it obvious what they were looking at within a few seconds.
Financial PDF:
“Does this person have enough money?”
Work PDF:
“Does this person actually run a remote business?”
Location PDF:
“Is this person actually in Vietnam?”
If those three things are obvious, the application becomes much stronger.
Also, don’t over-explain every tiny thing.
A clean short explanation is usually better than a long defensive paragraph.
Hope this helps someone applying under the business owner / remote work category. Send me a friend request and message me if you have any questions
