Has anyone done the re-entry permit at Phuket airport on departure recently?

How long was the wait? Any other advice please?

Thanks

Given we are regularly reminded a DTV is a ‘Tourist Visa’ has anyone had any success reclaiming their VAT on purchases as they depart Thailand.

I’d be most interested if people had experiences leaving from Phuket as I suspect airports may differ.

Had a really strange immigration experience coming back into Thailand a few days ago, and I’m curious if anyone else on DTV has run into something similar.

For context, I’ve been in Thailand cumulatively for about a year, but during that time I’ve also been traveling a lot. Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and elsewhere. My passport has stamps from all over. This has never been a case of staying in Thailand for long continuous stretches and doing border runs. I’ve never done a border run in my life. I’ve always left the country properly, traveled normally, and applied for the correct visas when I wanted to stay longer. Everything fully by the book.

This time around, I had been in Phuket for about two and a half months, left to travel, spent five days in Japan, and then flew back into Phuket.

At immigration, the officer started flipping through my passport and counting entries. He looked genuinely confused and concerned. A lot of staring at the passport, then at me, then back at the passport.

I told him I’m on DTV. He said he knew, but didn’t seem confident. He turned around and asked another officer about my passport and the number of entries, then called over his supervisor.

From what I could understand, she immediately recognized it as DTV and explained that multiple entries are normal and expected. After a couple minutes, she said okay and walked away.

Even after that, the officer still seemed hesitant. He didn’t stamp my passport. He wrote the date in by hand instead. Before letting me through, he said something about “long stay” and “one year,” and then told me that next time I come back I’ll likely be interrogated or sent to secondary or tertiary screening.

That honestly caught me off guard. I’ve followed the rules exactly. No overstays, no border runs, no working locally, no Thai clients. I travel because I want to and because I can, not to game the system.

I’ve entered Thailand many times over the years and this was the first time I’ve ever had any issue at immig

Just returned to Phuket airport after 1 week holiday to Japan on DTV visa…(UK citizen)

It’s about my 5th re entry

The only thing which changed this time, is that they asked to see the actual Visa on my phone with QR code

No asking of funds or anything like that or more questions this time….

Hi there, I entered Thailand yesterday with my DTV for the first time, via Phuket airport. I had my visa printed. The lady left with my passeport and visa to go ask something to one of her colleague, came back, stamped, no questions ask. I think she just wanted to be sure what to do with it. No stress 😇

Just some information/experience I would like to share at Phuket airport and for those still things about whether or not to apply for the DTV..

I was thinking about applying for a DTV soft power Muay Thai, but was not to sure yet (or maybe a little to lazy), then this happened today:

My son and I came back to Phuket today, by air, after spending a week on Bali.

I made the mistake of not booking an exit ticket (which I normally would, but they never asked before). This time they did ask and I told them honestly that I did not have one, because my daughter (12) is coming back on the 29th of march and we want to make a choice as a family as where to go next.

Stupid I know 🤦🏽‍♀️

I told them I would book an exit ticket right on the spot if that is really needed, but we got taken for interrogation anyway 😖

First time for everything.

I answered their questions as honestly as I could, also when they asked if we would come back after leaving again and I told them we might be.

So they asked what we do here in Thailand and I let them know we do some diving and Muay Thai.

Then they smiled and asked me to come in the office, she told me I should apply for the DTV soft power and made me take a picture of the flyer in their office.

Then she asked me to follow her to the booth and told me they will grant us the 60 day exemption, but urged me to apple for the DTV.

It will be more difficult for those travelling on visa exemptions and extensions and told me she couldn’t guarantee they wil let us enter, because of the multiple entries on exemptions and the extensions 🥺

Just at Phuket airport flying out to HCM and got questioned a bit, apparently (Phuket) immigration could have processed the DTV if already in Thailand on a valid ED visa? Explained to her we need to be out the country etc etc, she went off to double check but insisted they can/could have processed.

Given she spoke fluent English, seems unlikely to have been a miscommunication/misunderstanding. Anyone heard of this before?
