Has anyone done a 30 day visa extension trip Ranong to Myanmar and back to Ranong recently?

Did you use one of the longtail touts who hang around the pier? How did it go?

Also: What was required please back in Thailand, as I recall the only thing mentioned on the descriptive boards there was 20,000 Bhat, presumably in cash, but I suspect the well prepared will also have an onward ticket out of Thailand, and a hotel booked for the next night.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the experiences of individuals who recently completed a visa run from Ranong to Myanmar, specifically for a 30-day visa extension. It includes details about using local longtail boat services for transport, the costs involved, and the requirements for re-entering Thailand. Comments reflect various perspectives on the process, mentioning the fees for the boat, Myanmar immigration costs, and additional tips. Key points include the necessity of having cash (not always the 20,000 THB mentioned), potential onward travel arrangements, and the experiences of using agents versus negotiating directly.

Go the the immigration at sapan plaa pier. Local taxi was 10 b, or a motorbike taxi waiting at the local bus station. Arrived at the immigration get your stamp out, then walk down the street into the first fish hall on the right hand side. Have your 10 dollars for the Myanmar immigration prepared. Jump over the local boats and buy a ticket in one direction it was 50 b. Cross the sea, maybe they stop.a few times for other issues. When you arrive the mainland just find the border checkpoint pay the 10 dollar and get the in and out stamp of Burma after that find a boat which returns to the fish hall, and go straight back to the Thai immigration to get your new 30 day TR visa. Do you come from the island?

OK, I took the easy option, my hotel recommended the 'Local Boat' service at the Pier PTT Station. Closest business to the pier. Look for the sign with that name on it. There is at least one other visa agent there. I did not cost compare.

Yes I was 'robbed' after a small discount to 2,100 B, but my hand was held all the way and the visa fee in Myanmar was paid out of that sum. I'm a happy bunny at that price. A exemption renewal at a provincial office is I seem to recall 1,600 B, so the price is close.

Yeah, I know I could just pay 500 B for the boat, and what looked like a 500 B note to Myanmar Immigration, no USD needed. Maybe next time if there is a next time.

But on the other hand I was not asked on the Thai inbound side for any of the things I had

* funds (20,000 B in cash),

* a hotel booking for tonight, and

* an outbound ticket from Thailand.

I attribute that to the charms of 'Local Boat'. However, your mileage may differ, of course.

I gave 20 B to the fixer on the Myanmar side cause he was so charming in his efforts to separate me from money etc, did I want to buy Indian manufactured Viagra, did I want coffee, did I have a cig for him? He was happy with that.

At some stages (visits to two Thai islands en route, and one on the way back) your boatman will ask for your ppt. Just give it to him, he will show it at the right widows and give it back.

Whole thing took from 9am to 11.45am

to answer your specifics, Thai immigration does not keep your passport, it goes with you. Myanmar stamps you in and out in one transaction.

If you use the same agent your TM6 (used for land / sea entry) is filled out at Thai leaving time and stays with the agent while you go to Myanmar and back, but rejoins you and your passport when you get back, before you get to the entry window Thai side.

I would not trust any Myanmar option.

Use the men with the long tail ,they will assist you thru the immigration, cost 500 baht for the boat, ,take you to Ranong , wait and ring you back.you’ll need 10$ US for the Myanmar immigration,Can pick up some duty free there across the road, Beware of the many locals trying to sell you stuff. The 20,000 baht may on your not be asked for because they know you’re coming from Thailand doing a visa run.

Would be very intrested to know this too, some are saying you have to use agents or you wont get seen, others saying just negotiate a boat price.

I’ve read somewhere that Myanmar dont stamp you in & out Ranong Immagration just keeps your passport, dont know how that works
