For anyone going to Vietnam for a tourist visa: Ho Chi Minh embassy want to see all documents and are enforcing it. Bank statements, air tickets and proof of hotel bookings. This is for a single entry tourist visa on a U.K. passport. They checked each document time and time again.

They also described the picking up of the visa as ‘the result’...

Have all your documents printed before you come here. You’ve been warned!

Update: Very doable in 36 hours, flew early morning from Don Meuang with Nok Air and then returned the next day in the evening. Visa ready at 13.30pm next day, website says 2 working days [I think] which is incorrect!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the strict documentation requirements for obtaining a Thai tourist visa at the Ho Chi Minh embassy, emphasizing the need for multiple proofs including bank statements, air tickets, and hotel bookings. It mentions that these measures are in place for single entry visas on a U.K. passport and provides insight into the processing time, which is reportedly faster than stated on the official website. Comments further clarify that similar documentation is required at both Thai consulates in Vietnam, and some suggest alternatives like the Vietnam visa on arrival.

There is a list of countries that can apply for a thai visa at the consulates in Vietnam ONLY if they hold legal residence in Vietnam too

Brits don't NEED a visa on arrival to Vietnam because they get in for 15 days for free.

BOTH thai consulates in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi) have been requiring all 3-proof-ofz to get a single entry tourist visa for a good while now I believe.

Also keep in mind they only accept US dollars for the thai visa fees too.

Fair comment. I had to go to the photocopy place down the road (3 mins), twice. They must be doing a roaring trade!

, The upside is those two consulates aren't busy at all. AND both Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi are nice cities to hang about while you wait to get your visa issued.

They were young kids, very polite and actually decent level of English, they checked my docs and passport about 5 times. Like they were petrified of getting something wrong. There was an American guy at the next counter getting involved in a heated debate as he didn't have onwards flight proof.
