TOURIST VISA IN NEPAL: Hubby and I are Americans, been in Thailand for awhile, but let go of our Retirement extension because of all the new requirements. We are leaving in 2020 so decided to do some short trips in the region and come back on Tourist visas. Just wanted to report that we had no problems with getting a single-entry TV in Katmandu, though they require a lot of paperwork: 3 copies of application, 6 months of bank statements, inward and outbound travel booking, a hotel booking or letter of invitation (with additional paperwork on whomever invited you.) We had our son, who is a student in Thailand, invite us.
Some tips: The embassy is open M-F. It takes 5 working days to process the visa, but we were able to travel by bus and air around Nepal with copies of passports plus Nepal visa. They only receive applications from 9:30 am-noon. You have to pay your fees at a particular bank (15 minute walk) and the banks don't open until 10 am. So we showed up at 9:15 am to get a number; they checked our paperwork, then we went to the bank to get receipt, returned about 10:30 am. By that time there were many people waiting with numbers, but we were able to skip the queue because we had already had our paperwork checked.
To pick up passports, you need to return M-F between 2-4 pm only. We were gone 10 days.
This was our first tourist visa after having Non-Immigrant O visas, and we weren't questioned or asked to show cash when we entered at DMK in Bangkok.
Hoping it goes as smoothly when we visit Hanoi in February!
