TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats have successfully obtained a 2-month tourist visa in Ho Chi Minh with recent reports indicating that only proof of onward travel was necessary. While some applicants brought additional documents like a bank statement showing 20,000 baht and proof of accommodation, it appears these were not always requested. The standard process involves submitting the application in the morning and collecting the passport the next afternoon. Be aware that Thai consulates in Vietnam only accept US dollars for the visa fee.
its the usual apply in the morning, then collect the following day in the afternoon. Not a busy consulate, and a decent place to hangout for a few days. I'd recommend using uber there for all your travels (its all legal) and saves having to deal with money and taxis. traffic is hellish, take a uber bike if u dont mind.
I took with me all 3 proofs: flight out of thailand within the 60, hotel booking, and bank statement. I gave em it all, and they kept it. This was couple of weeks ago.
recent reports from some people were they only wanted to see proof of onward travel and didn't require proof of the 20K baht in a bank account or proof of lodging.
Still it's listed on their website so I would have the proof ofs just in case they ask you for it.
