TLDR : Answer Summary
The Savannakhet consulate for Thai tourist visas requires applicants to present 20,000 baht in cash or an updated bank book. If these requirements are not met, applicants risk rejection. There is also mention of some local individuals offering assistance in bypassing these requirements for a fee, highlighting issues of corruption. The surrounding discussion touches on inconsistencies in enforcement, the need for better communication of requirements, and variations between visa types, particularly noting that other visa categories like the Non-O based on marriage have different, less stringent requirements.

upto date bank book same day or 24 hours before. which is as daft as a box of frogs.
as if this was all you had. and taken it out via the atm and not updated your bank book WELL. mind boggles
just for the RECORD there is a nice laos guy directly across the road who can get around the requirments. should you be unfortunate enough to forget your docs. this charge is 5000bht . 50% back to the official at the counter. so its not all negative just CORRUPT as per
Because all the thai consulates (which are located outside of thailand ;) ) are run under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they are given a LOT of latitude in deciding what or what's not required for various visas.
For instance; while Savannakhet is tough on tourist visas, they're still one of the 2 or 3 consulates in S/E Asia that will issue a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai with NO financial proof at all.
Out of curiosity Tod, what are the others that will issue a non immigration O based on marriage visa with no proof of financials, other than Suvannakhet?
BOTTOM LINE its dunb as thai regulations nothink more..
sensible approach woilukd be to hand out or show prominent information on thai side. before people get stamped out . . USE THE ATM get a statment etc .
You live here or what I Don't care. Just sharing experience that's it. What you do with this up to you. Negatives are easily found... next time I will not post again....
I know Tod, but reading this comment, I needed to ask. Thai regulations are dumb, no think more, not a sensible approach to hand out information about visa before stamped out. Its sounds crazy to me.
So you think it is wise for Thai Immigration to hand out a list of requirements of the Consulate or Embassy of country of destination, to get a new Visa, to all of the 30 million tourists before allowing them to leave the country. If i understand correctly?
It has been posted on almost every thai related f/b group and forum on the inter-web that Savannakhet is hard as nails about meeting those proof-ofz to issue tourist visas.
Unfortunately, as hard as it sounds, I have no sympathy for people who don't at least do a marginal google search before trekking off to another country to get a visa for thailand.
nope, that requires no financial proof of anything, no onward travel ticket, no nothing, just the marriage certificates, wife's thai i/d and her house book listing.
