Hello all... as a matter of interest... are you keeping your life insurance PLUS your medical whilst your in Thailand

I moved to Nakon Ratchasima last year and kept my US health insurance (62 yo male in good health). However, the insurance is $750 USD a month. Is it advisable to cancel that insurance, get local insurance, and just get travel insurance for my twice yearly trips to the US to see the grandkids? I plan to just do 10 day trips to the US. Medical vs travel insurance question for maximum 5 month stay.

I have just secured a 5 year DTV and arrive in Thailand next week. I plan on staying around 4-5 months before heading back to Europe for 2-4 weeks. Then back to Thailand and repeat this process.

Question, can I get travel insurance for the trip of 5 months, then do this again before I return for another 5 months or so stay, or do I need to purchase 12 months medical insurance.

I'm very disappointed today. I've been learning about the visa process for awhie but I joined recently and have been enjoying all the information that is posted. I would love to retire in Thailand but it's not to be. I've left it too late. Today I was told that it will cost me over $900US/mo to buy the insurance I need because of my age. I've had other similar quotes although that's the highest so far so I think it's time to accept the fact that I will just have to visit when I can but not actually move there.

So the lesson here is don't put off the things you want to do. If you do, you may find you've left it too late.
