Thailand offers free tourist insurance up to 500,000 baht, but I haven’t looked into the conditions. I use Revolut for the first three months of my stay and then will probably switch to Safety Wings, which I did last time.

Good luck claiming that “insurance” when you want treatment at a private hospital. And you’re not entering as a Tourist under the DTV.

It isn’t but only a madman would live in Thailand without proper health insurance.

I still have my health insurance in Switzerland,so for me it’s not necessary, but I understand that you want to feel a bit safer. But in my experience insurances in Asia working a bit different than you know maybe from your home country…own experience and also heard of others…all is fine as long as you pay your amount, but in case of you will need it,they find excuses not to pay…so chose wisely, and good luck.

the real reason why I wanted a local insurance is that in case of emergency I don’t want to argue with them about payment. There was the case with the Taiwanese guy last year who died because the hospital didn’t treat him.

in Philippines you die on the floor of the ER if you don’t pay upfront…in an emergency I still could get my treatment abroad and get the money back later…but yeah,it’s always individual.
