I searched through the "passive income" bar for the LTR visa and I was never able to ascertain if a U.S pension, social security and 401K monthly payment to reach the 80K yearly threshold an approved way to meet the criteria to get approved.

Need Help with Tax Documents from Vietnam and Thailand for U.S. State Tax Filing

Hey everyone, I’m in a bit of a tricky situation and could really use some advice. I was working in Vietnam and Thailand for a number of years but, as a U.S. citizen, I’ve recently been informed that I still need to file state taxes back home. However, I’m having a hard time figuring out exactly what documents I need to obtain from the overseas countries I've worked in and how to submit them properly to the U.S. state tax office.

The state where I'm registered as a resident isn’t providing much help—they keep sending me links to sections of a PDF without actually answering my questions. Has anyone been through this before and could offer some guidance on the steps I need to follow? Specifically, what documents should I get from Vietnam and Thailand, and how do I ensure they are acceptable for U.S. tax filings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Sounds like all the people who said they know... still don't know, the same as the rest of us.

When I retire here next year, will my US pension and Social Security be taxable in Thailand? Will I be paying Thai taxes and US Federal taxes? I guess at least I won't pay colorado state taxes.

Can anyone recommend a good expat tax person for US citizen living in Thailand? I would do it myself but there are some complications and I would rather have an expert dealing with it.

Learned this from a CPA friend of mine...

If you are American and have a foreign bank account - you need to fill out "FBAR, *Form* 114" with your taxes yearly, or ELSE! There is a $100,000 fine that may be leveled against you, if you don't. Look it up - don't find out the hard way!

Hello everyone I had a question about taxes related to a non b visa. Idk if this is the correct place to ask these questions so if it’s not then sorry. Anyway, the time to file personal income tax in the US is coming up and from my understanding I have to file taxes in both countries separately. Now I didn’t receive my work permit until December 28th of last year. My employer is telling me I don’t need to file taxes on this income in Thailand until the end of my contract in September when my work permit needs renewing. My main question is if that is actually correct? Should I wait until the end of the work permit to pay the taxes? Or does Thailand have a specific deadline to file personal income taxes by? This is my first year working overseas so I appreciate any info on this. Maybe my question is a bit silly but just looking for any general guidance on this stuff thanks in advance.
