Hi all, question about taxes (yay!). For those holding a DTV visa and are in Thailand longer than 180 days a year. How are you filing your taxes?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Individuals holding a DTV visa in Thailand for over 180 days need to consider their tax obligations. It's advisable to file taxes in the country where your income is deposited. Visiting the nearest Revenue Office can help you obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and understand the necessary documentation. However, some expats suggest that filing might not be worth the effort depending on personal circumstances, such as source of income and tax treaties.

The best place to file is where you hold a bank account where your income is getting paid to.

Visit the nearest Revenue Office and explain them you wish to obtain a tax ID TIN and want to pay taxes in Thailand. You may or not be subject to taxes depending on your profile (remitted money, treaties and so ones).

Anonymous participant 607 they wanted a letter confirming my bank before they would give me a TIN. Which for DTV us difficult because you not allowed a bank account. 🤔

Yes you have to have a bank account before you can file taxes. The idea is for them to see your money coming in

Anonymous participant 427 You don't need a thai bank account to pay taxes in Thailand. You can pay online, at some banks, revenue offices and various payment means. Remitted money, whether sent or not on a thai account or not could be taxable.

I don't know why you would want to go through that trouble. Nor does the staff at the revenue department. Just file where your money gets paid to.

You are still going to be charged dual pricing like a tourist and there is certainly no pathway to permanent residency or citizenship on the dtv.

Get an employer of record and switch to a non B visa or even BOI which gets you fast track. At least you can open a bank account, have a year long stay, and have a pathway to permanent residency and eventually citizenship.
