Hi all, thank you always for the valuable and helpful information. Does anyone know any good agency in Bangkok that can support getting a tax number and filing an individual tax return? I got my DTV and would like to prepare. Many thanks for your kind information in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks recommendations for agencies in Bangkok that assist with obtaining a tax number and filing individual tax returns. It highlights the importance of understanding tax obligations for DTV holders, noting that needing a tax number depends on residency duration and taxable income. Comments clarify that a tax number cannot be acquired just for preparation; actual tax residency and income generation are required.

Hi,

Just a small clarification — having a DTV does not automatically mean you need to obtain a Thai tax number or file immediately.

Tax obligations in Thailand are mainly triggered by two factors:

1. Whether you stay in Thailand for more than 180 days in a calendar year (tax residency rule)

2. Whether you have taxable income under Thai law (especially income brought into Thailand)

Some DTV holders do need a tax number.

Some actually don’t — at least not immediately.

It really depends on:

– Your physical presence days

– Where your income is sourced

– Whether funds are remitted into Thailand

– And your longer-term structure (business/employment / remote work setup)

Applying for a tax ID is straightforward if required — but it’s better to assess first rather than register “just in case.”

If you’d like, I’m happy to share a quick framework to determine whether you actually need one this year. It’s usually clearer once we look at your specific situation.

You can't get a tax number just to prepare. You need to actually become a tax resident first, and have taxable income.
