Hi ! I was wondering if the visa duration is calculated from the moment we apply and get granted or from the moment we are arriving in Thailand ? I want to apply next month but plan on going to Thailand in November so I don’t want to waist 9months in my 5 years

hello! looking for information from folks that have recently applied as a remote worker in Hanoi. both my partner and myself want to apply (canadian & american).

we have both had language ED visas in the past, and have spent many months over the years in Thailand. I see a lot of info in this chat about extra documents requested, i’ll list here what i’m seeing as necessary. please add your experience and any other documentation you needed!

also, i see people recommending folks to check the specific embassy’s requirements for documentation, but i’m not finding that information on Hanoi’s website outside of the basic requirements.

documents to provide:

- cover letter explaining past and present work and what i’ve been doing in thailand

- work contracts (freelancer from september, employed from jan 1st)

- CV

- examples of my work

- record of employment

- my employer’s company incorporation/registration as a 501c3

- letter from employer about me working remotely

- bank statements showing 500k from how many months? showing incoming payments from my employer. i also was a freelancer being paid in crypto before, should i include that?

- other basic docs like passport scan, passport photo, vietnam entry stamp, vietnam hotel booking

thanks in advance for any support!

A "really anything" question.

Can anyone read this Thai line?

My translation software gives me several different measurements? I've even used AI to read it getting different answers from different AI tools.

I currently hold a DTV visa, and my stamp is valid until the 19th of January. I’ve already been in Thailand for almost six months.

A couple of days ago, I visited Immigration Division 1. I had received an email from them with a list of documents I needed to submit, and I ensured I had everything prepared. However, upon speaking with them, it turned out that my paperwork wasn’t sufficient. I had submitted proof of 500,000 baht across various bank accounts, but the superintendent also required a screenshot of... producing the statement. Additionally, they asked for a letter explaining my work and income since my arrival, as well as my future plans.

As they explained, I was the first person with a DTV visa to request an extension, and it seemed they were still trying to figure out the process themselves.

Today, I returned with the additional documents they requested, but it still wasn’t enough. Now, they are asking for bank statements for each account covering the last 30 days, and they plan to use the lowest balance in each statement to calculate the total sum of 500,000 baht.

On top of that, I was informed that I should have reported to “Counter A” after staying in Thailand for 90 days. And Because I didn’t, there’s now a fine of 2,000 baht. Stupid of me, but I didn’t happen to hear about this requirement.

The staff mentioned they are waiting for further instructions by Friday and I would need to check back with them by that day.

However, I’m starting to feel concerned. What if I submit everything again and it still isn’t enough? So now, I’m considering doing a border run, possibly tomorrow. From what I’ve been told, re-entering the country would automatically grant me another 180 days, avoiding all the complications with the extension process.

The officer I dealt with was polite and genuinely seemed to want to help, but it was clear they were uncertain about the requirements themselves and therefore they were being cautious and kind of… creative.

I thought I’d share my experience here, as it might be helpful to others in a similar situation.

If anyone has advice about the border run, I’d appreciate it. I’m about to look now into the cheapest destinations for a quick trip. I’m thinking of even staying for two nights wherever I go and maybe make something nice out of this experience.

Any recommendations or insights would be greatly appreciated!

A quick one: Is insurance essential to be eligible for the DTV? I've always been the type to keep money squirrelled away for medical emergencies after crap experiences with insurance companies in the past.

Cheers all

Couple of questions about 90 day report.

1. I heard you can do the first one in person but all the next ones online. Can someone give the URL for this?

2. Do I need to do the 90 day report at the 180 day mark? So if I do the extension should I also do the 90 day report or since I am doing the extension the 90 day is not required?

I'm confused here, is the intended date of departure should be the one under the 180days or under the 5 years that the visa allows ?
