Have many UK citizens applying for DTV through London Embassy been asked for tax returns when applying as a freelancer?

Anyone here who is freelancer on DTV and stayed over 6 months and decided to become tax resident here? Or are the majority of you leaving every 180 days?

I’m from one of highest taxed country in EU with close to 50% tax. For me it’s a big win to become tax resident here asap.

Applied (from Japan) for soft power DTV (health & wellness); cancelled for "... docs do not meet .requirement for DTV". Used mult forums & AI to mirror examples from people that were approved for the same thing (in last 2 months). These were applicants with less financial stability, so maybe it depends on the consulate?

Reapplying under freelance as a portfolio manager, which is a significant amount of income, but not sure if they will accept. As you have to uploaded financial docs in a previous block; I wrote a letter for "Remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status" detailing my freelancer status.

Is this second attempt a bad mark for me?

If rejected/cancelled, should I go through an agent? I'm close to $700 down on this already and would like to not lose more money without a good explanation.

Should I get the METV for now, wait until I turn 50 (next year) & apply for non-DTV options that I am 100% qualified for?

Hi to you!

Is it true that if you do a border run at the Chiang Khong/Huay Xai border you have to stay a minimum of two(2) nights in Laos?

It's suppose to be an enforcement from the Thai border dating from august 2024.

Thanks!

Further more do we still have a 60 days Thai Visa Exempt Stamp. This would be my 2nd so I should be ok.

Thanks again for your help.

A canadian.

FYI:My Extension 30 days was refused at Chiang Mai airport immigration.

I entered nov 2024, extended and did a border bounce (150 days) and went back to Europe

(Also in the years before patterns like that.)

Then I came back 4th of Nov 2025.

First they asked me if I had an outbound ticket (didnt have), then they offered only 7 days which I declined.

I could try at Festival later, but I guess it would give the same result.

Maybe I was just unlucky with an extension on 18 dec 2024 for 3rd of Jan 2025. Maybe it will be granted when I go 19th of dec of 2nd of Jan (last day), but I'm not gonna wait for that...

So, they look probably per 12 months (and not the calenderyear) and they really get stricter...

Good morning!

I live in Hua Hin for 6 month with a METV and has to leave the country every 2 month. This is clear?

Do I need a reentry permit any time with this visa?

Thank you.

Hi everyone, I’m on a Non-B visa for the last five years. Unfortunately, my 90-day report was overdue by one week. Immigration fined me 2,000 THB and put a stamp in my passport.

Does this stamp affect anything — my passport, future visa extensions, or any other countries’ visas?

One way ticket and travel around SE Asia

This was our experience yesterday at BKK airport. We had a one way flight into Bangkok as we are going travelling.

Arrived from the UK via India. No onward/return air ticket. We were asked by the IO how long we were planning to stay and when/where/how we were leaving.

We have been to Thailand twice this year already but short stays within the 60 day visa exempt period. No questions asked about number of times visiting.

We do not plan to stay longer than our visa exempt 60 days this time either but our plans are flexible. I purchased bus tickets to Vientiane and booked a refundable hotel there for two reasons:-

1. In case we needed proof we would be leaving Thailand (within the visa exempt period); and

2. In case our airline questioned us having a one way flight (Air India did question this at the boarding gate in London). They do not want to be responsible for paying in case we are deported.

The IO did not ask to see any proof of the onward travel out of Thailand. But for the sake of £7 for two of us, this was worth it for peace of mind!

There were other nationalities being carefully scrutinised by the IO who were in front of us in the queue.

Thanks for all the advice on the posts in this group. They have been very informative and helpful.
