Just so you know, apparently schools in Thailand will be closed until the beginning of July :)

How about the Chiang Khong border to Laos just east of Mae Sai? Is that still an option for those in Chiang Rai? :)

@Holly *******
I just came across this article on a post below. The part about "Travellers from countries with on-going local transmissions" seems to refer to where people have arrived from rather than their nationality. Australia isn't on the list (yet!) so you should be fine......I know our situations aren't identical, but they are similar. I'll let you know if they ask me to self-quarantine or I have any issues when I pop up to Nong Khai tomorrow :) ......

Thanks Tod. They managed to speak to the Labour Office about it and eventually agreed with me on it. :)

Something similar happened to me about 5 years ago. I didn't cover my passport properly when caught out by a thunderstorm whilst I rode my bike. It washed away the color in my photo. It was officially classified as damaged.......In the end, I did the following: 1) Applied for a new passport at the British embassy (well technically the VFS service), 2) got a new passport in 4-5 weeks, 3) received a letter/document about transferring my extension of stay, 4) Then I went to my local immigration office (Phitsanulok) to transfer the extensions from one passport to the other. I can't remember if I had to pay a fee for that though.....The whole process cost me around 5000baht plus travel to Bangkok. You mentioned earlier that you didn't want to spend 500baht on a trip to immigration to get clarification. Another 10% on your costs might be worth it if they ask for anything else, and could possibly save you money if you make a mistake.... :)

To be fair, I've found the officers up there to be relaxed and polite, so it sounds like innocent mistake. It's nice to hear he apologized and corrected his mistake. It's never nice to face as the consequences can be quite severe for the foreigners. However, statistically, there will always be a few unfortunate souls who will suffer at some point. He was smart to get in touch with someone who knows his stuff. I know it wouldn't have helped this guy but it's for these kind of reasons why it's always important to check what's in your passport and make sure everything is as it should be.....

The administrators can be blunt and probably sound rude to some......But most people come here for advice to deal with a potentially stressful and tricky situation....So the only important thing I want to hear is either....A) how to deal with my issue LEGALLY....or B) it's impossible and I have to leave the country......The rest doesn't bother me in the slightest....If it did then I'd pay for an agency who'd get me the answer/solution I wanted......The other issue is that many (including myself) don't always give a clear context or full information about their situation which makes it difficult/impossible to find the right solution.....

The fastest way to Savannakhet from Chiang Mai is probably by taking a flight directly to Ubon Ratchathani and then a 3 hour bus journey to Mukdahan. From Mukdahan you could get a bus over the bridge to Savannakhet

A lot of comments on here. I have no idea why she was denied, but just putting another idea out there......Williams is a very common name. Could they have searched the system, found another Williams with the same first name who had been here before, and then either got confused or became skeptical that she hadn't been to Thailand before.......Either way nobody will ever know so it doesn't really matter why it happened....So best to follow Benjamin's advice or what Robert just posted.....PS I saw you're studying at Manna Thai. I studied with them up until recently in Chiang Rai. One of my classmates went to HCMC a couple of months back and also got rejected and had massive issues, albeit for a 2nd year, not 1st year ED Visa. Might just be a coincidence though..... :)

Just make sure the university are organized and experienced in preparing and dealing with your documents. Different immigration offices have slightly different requirements and procedures, with some stricter than others. Best way to find out would be to simply ask other foreign students studying at that university.......Apart from that, you should be fine :) Best of luck :)
