@James Miller "For Vientiane...please be prepared:

Suitable for apply Non B (only one in one year),

Non ED (only one in one year & cover letter must only indicate your specific level & show bank balance THB 20,000.-)," ..................James Miller I just saw your post stating this regarding getting a Non-Ed visa in Vientiane. I am planning on going to Vientiane around the 2nd/3rd October to get my 2nd ever Non-Ed visa. I got my first Non-Ed visa around the 25th October 2018 from Vientane too. So my questions are...... 1) Will I likely have problems considering I got my last Non-Ed visa just short of 365 days ago.......2) Regarding the bank balance, will a recent copy of my Thai bank book suffice, or do they require signed bank statements from a bank manager etc.....? Thanks :).....PS 3) I thought I read somewhere on here I would need a police check too for getting a Non-Ed in Vientane, but can't find the post. Is that going to be necessary too?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the requirements and potential issues of applying for a second Non-ED visa in Vientiane, Laos. It's noted that applicants can only apply for one Non-ED visa per calendar year, and specific documents including a bank statement showing a balance of THB 20,000 are required. Concerns are raised about the time elapsed since the last visa application, the type of bank verification needed, and if a police check is necessary. Various participants share their experiences and advice regarding timing and documentation, particularly stressing the importance of adhering to the visa application rules.

Note that in Savannakhet...

IF YOU HAVE PRIOR HISTORY OF TOURIST VISAS with extensions...also visa exempt entries with extensions... ETC.....You will be DENIED THE ED VISA.

Here is update of August 27 re Savannakhet...

"Suitable for apply Non B (no issues, but not back to back), for Non ED (cover letter must only indicate your specific level, show bank balance THB 20,000.- and if you already had an extended Tourist Visa, previously, you will be denied a Non ED.), Non O volunteer (first time OK, no back to back Non O volunteer without the letter from relevant government agency). Non O yearly multiple entry if married to Thai (no issues, no proof of funds required).

Tourist Visa, apply if your stay is less than 90 days in past 6 month, show own Thai Book Bank with balance THB 20,000.- up OR print out from your Bank account from home country value USD 700.-up. OR onward air ticket. "

If you worry that much, man up, bite the bullet and get the correct visa

@Filip *******
if you're coming in by the Nong Khai land border you won't be questioned at all. That is hands down the easiest border in the COUNTRY to cross into thailand by
Tod *********
@Filip *******
you shouldn't have a problem with just a 30 visa exempt entry and a 30 day extension on top of that.
Robert *******
Filip Kubala and this 30 day Visa Exempt Entry is the first ever visit to Thailand?
James ********
@Filip *******
flying in is not entering with a Tourist Visa. Its a visa exempt on arrival for 30 days....just a stamp. No full page visa sticker.

Here us September 2 update from

Amornrat ....re Vientiane:

"Suitable for apply Non B (only one in one full year), Non ED (only one in one full year & cover letter must only indicate your specific level & show bank balance THB 20,000.-), Non O Single Entry (but no retirement) if married to Thai or support Thai Child (if back to back application, they will ask show money THB 200,000.- in Thai Bank Account). For application Non O Volunteer first time (if back to back need guarantee letter from said Ministry equivalent to department level).

Tourist Visa, in case you had previously some Tourist visa your application will be considered more carefully. Vientiane is now, in most cases, asking for proof of funds, Book Bank with balance THB 20,000.- up OR print out from Bank account from home country value USD 700.-up. Onward air ticket is not required."

*****************************************************************************
Amornrat **********
In case you apply repeat Non O the THB200k they are asking must be in the bank at the application process.
Amornrat **********
Vientiane does not issue Non O multiple. Currently Savannakhet and HCMC issue them. Penang n Yangon too, but need to show money.
Amornrat **********
@Justin *********
yes, first time no problem for Non O marriage, they just not want that you keep going every 5 month and apply for Non O and than the 60day extension. But things have calmed down a bit so they might relax on that.

"Non Immigrant Visa Single Entry is THB 2,000.-. (Multiple NOT available)."......Never mind, I should have read the page more carefully....... Thanks

Non O Single Entry (but no retirement) if married to Thai or support Thai Child (if back to back application, they will ask show money THB 200,000.- in Thai Bank Account) ..............2 questions: 1) This means I wouldn't need to show any money the first time around for the single entry non-o , correct? And if you do, how long does it need to have been in the Thai bank for?.......2) Can you get a Non-O multi entry marriage in Vientiane. And if so how much money do you need in the bank, and how may months worth of bank statements would be required? :)

Sorry to bring this back up, but still deliberating on what to do. Would a 30 day visa waiver after I cancel my ed-visa, bringing me to the middle/end of November work around this. I've noticed all my extensions seem to be for 90 days, not 3 months, hence my current extension expires just a few days short of the 365 days since I got my first ed-visa........I also saw a post earlier about people having issues in Savannakhet so still considering which option would be better..... :)

Yesterday the applications, first timers got approved in Vientiane. Repeat or second course I can not confirm. I would observe the one year rule, but better you go to FB page of Royal Thai Embassy Vientiane and send your question, there is a very nice person that replies within hours.

I think you're right. Thanks James........It will depend a lot on how things go with the British embassy and local amphoe......I'll let you know it goes.... :)

@Justin *********
the Ed visa is a dead issue right now...need the Plan B....my two cents in reading the tea leaves.
James ********
@Justin *********
take a step back...don't push the Ed visa...do as Amornrat has recently suggested. that's my opinion.
Justin **********

I think I see what you're getting at though
@James *******
and go for a multi-entry Non-O based on marriage possibly if the Ed-visa goes wrong......

James Miller Not at the moment. Was originally planning on doing it in Nov/Dec before this happened. But now I'm in the process of trying to get this all sorted at the beginning of October BEFORE my current extension expires......However, the process is complicated and there's a lot that can go wrong in terms of the affadavits and getting the right documents for the local Amphoe at the moment. I'm heading to Bangkok next week...I'm a little concerned by rushing this I may end up screwing it up a little so I don't want to completely rely on that for the time being.....
James ********
@Justin *********
and again...lets refresh our memory...are you now married to a Thai ?

@James *******
I should have been a little more clear about that Nov-Jan. With my current extension expiring on the 25th Oct, 2 30 waivers would take me up to Christmas. Ideally I need it for 3 months, until the end of January.......Basically I screwed up my months up until March for bringing 40k into the country through Transferwise because I exchanged it into thai baht before it hit the bank. Therefore as far as they're concerned it wasn't a "foreign transaction".......

and if you recall

said this in reply ...IMHO...do not push the dateline suggested...but lets see what Amornrat says in the morning.

"Vientiane is very strict on these days. If you just need to overcome the period November to Jan than do one - 2 border run, each extend, so for month."

I'm still planning on learning Thai at the same school. They have different levels, beginner, intermediate, and advanced.........However, with all the difficulties I've had with this since I started studying last year I want to switch to a different visa as soon as possible...... Next Jan/Feb my plan is to move onto a 90 day Non-O marriage visa from Savannakhet, and then get an extension with the 400k deposit around March/April. These 3 months between November-January are proving to be increasingly frustrating......

@Robert ******
i mean whats the next course your planning to take mate since you alreayd took thai

I'm studying Thai and got my first visa from Vientane. My school provided me with the documents showing I was enrolled. I don't remember off the top of my head what those documents exactly were though. In terms of my own documents, just my passport and copies. They didn't want or ask for funds in my bank, police check or anything like that. This was around 25th October 2018. Since then Vientane seems to have gone through some changes......

chill mate i do attend my japanese class for a whole 10 month period and im planning to take thai this time and continue attending it aswell
Robert *******
he took a course in something he really did like to learn and yes he is doing this again. if you are looking for an easy to get ED visa without study, sit in classrooms etc, please forget it. It is hard enough for genuine students at the moment.

Thanks Robert. Therefore I'd like to ask:.......1) Is this actually what happens in reality. My school seem to feel I can go a little bit earlier than the 25th October?........2) Do you have a document from a relevant office showing this, either in Thai or English, which I can use to show my school. The relevant websites don't seem to have this updated information :) ........3) Does this just apply to getting 2 Non-Ed visas SPECIFICALLY from Vientane within 1 year. i.e If I was to go to Savannakhet (for example) would I have the same issue......Thankyou for all of your help guys :) Have a nice weekend :)
James ********
Robert *******
yes, it is once a year, from date of issue till 1 year later. use the search option for the reports of tohters

Robert Lagas Ah, the letter states once every calendar year. Some previous posts I'm looking at suggest it's once every 365 days. :) Have there been reports of people getting rejected if they get a 2nd Non-Ed visa within 365 days? :)
Robert *******
To be quick: Answr 1,2,3 yes yes yes

one ED visa in one year. Your current visa is from around 25 Oct 2018 , counting 1 year, next application can be done after around 25 Oct 2019. For specific date you have to take a look at the visa and check the date of issue.

Also, I don't think it's relevant, but for what it's worth I'm staying with the same school, not changing school...... :)
