I get my codes to access my U.S. bank accounts on my U.S. number, that’s why I keep it.

Not sure about SSI, but for Social Security retirement, if you stay out of the country longer then 3 months, you’re required to fill out an SSA-21 form which requires the address you’re physically residing at. How do I know? I just got an email on it. Here it is:

I hear so much conflicting information, yes you have to get a TIN and file a tax return, no you don’t, etc. I’m just going to wait to see how it all pans out. If I do have to file, it will be next year anyway. Should be sorted out by then. Anyone that says they know definitely about it, is full of it as far as I’m concerned.

I started with my Navy Federal Credit Union account in the U.S., but got sick of having to transfer every month, Wise was taking a week to get here. So I changed it to my Thai bank, and it’s like clockwork every second Wednesday of the month. Very happy with my decision.

They’re starting to enforce it this year. The details are still murky so we’ll have to watch to see how it plays out.
