I have to go to Chiang Mai for one night to get my friends from the airport. My tm30 obviously is registered to my address . Ideal I want a hotel that will not raise a tm30, but it's not an ideal world. So if they do raise a tm30 would need to go to immigration within 24 hours of my return to register to my address again. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the TM30 form and whether it needs to be refiled after staying in a hotel for one night in Chiang Mai. Many users share their experiences with local immigration offices, noting that requirements can vary by location. Some state they have never had to refile after short hotel stays, while others emphasize the importance of having the TM30 updated for 90-day reports and other immigration services. It is recommended to also check online filing options for TM30 to maintain records up to date.

You dont need a tm30 for going to a hotel for one night I was in CM for 3 nights ( not my address on tm30 ) to visit and returned to my registered address. If you want recommendation for hotel check into star hotel. Personally suggest that hotel its location to everything in CM and fair priced.

I also live in Chiang Rai, use Mae Sai office, my understanding is they don't care about this for trips around thailand if you are returning to your main residence.

Changes all the time very irritating ……

Jomtien immigration no need to report if you have retirement one year visa
Robert ********
I have asked my immigration over 10 years ago and they said I don’t need to (maybe because I’m married to Thai?).

Give it a try.

Chiang Rai Province immigration is not so close.

I had a tm30 lodged about 2 months ago. Recently was away and stayed in Bangkok, then Koh Tao, then Koh Yao Yai. Total travel period of about 2 weeks. Went to immigration yesterday for a residence certificate and they were happy enough with my original TM30. That was at Jomtien, maybe other areas differ

Many replies stating "my Immigration Office" or similar but failing to name that office so a load of meaningless replies. Come on folks, be clear when replying.

I travel all over Thailand and never bother with renewing TM30 and no problems when I return and have go to immigration for something.

My IO have made it quite clear that I must re register tm30 each time I return home after only one night away at another address. I now do it on line. In addition if you file 90 day report on line and your current tm30 does not match the home address it will be rejected. I always file tm30 on line just before 90 day report just to be certain all matches up and do not have any issues. .

Book an Air BnB no TM 30 that way.

A big NO

My IO said only necessary when I leave the country

My TM30 for the condo I rent is good for 365 days

I can put 5 years on mine as I have a 5 year visa but it does not make it valid for 5 years
Wayne *********
@Jim *******
that's just what you entered it does not make it valid for a year if you go stay at a hotel
Jim ********
Wayne *********
@Jim *******
except if you book into a hotel then that's the latest that shows in the immigration system
Jim ********
@Wayne ********
yes. But it doesn’t cancel a long term TM30. The TM30 I have for my condo rental is from Aug 2024 to July 2025. 365 days.
Graham ******
@Jim *******
there is no such thing as a one year TM30 registration, a new one cancels the previous one
Wayne *********
@Jim *******
might not cancel but it will not be the one that shows up as last stay
John **********
The hotel is obliged to file a TM30. Whether or not you need to file again when you return home is immigration office dependent
Andy *******
If you return to same address you do not have according to my local immigration office ( wife also advised in thai as home owner)

I never have re filed in the last at least 7 years despite leaving the country etc

I personally would not give it a thought

@Andy ******
Catch here is if you want to do 90-day report online. If a hotel filed a TM-30 and you don't refile back at home, then you won't be able to do your next 90-day online
Andy *******
@Micah *******
oh I see that's a shame in that case

@Andy ******
same with me

@Andy ******
It’s office specific. Some will insist on a re-filing after a stay in a hotel or hospital.

If you don’t need interaction with immigration then you don’t really need to file, but for those offices that insist on an up to date one you won’t get services without it.

@Stuart ********
like I said .....my local office

Its really not that hard, but the reality is you may not have to. I have lived in Thailand for 5 years and have not once re-filed a TM30 for my home address despite staying in many hotels that filed one. I haven't even re-filed after leaving the country and returning. Only once has immigration even said anything, and then they just updated my TM30 on the spot.
Duncan *******
@Wylie ******
it all depends on the Immigration office.
Dave **********
@Wylie ******
I was told by local Immigration to quit bothering them years ago. They never asked at yearly extensions and now I have a LTR so will see what they say at the 5 year check. ( I go out every years so no yearly sign in ).
Garrett ***********
@Wylie ******
Yeah I haven't done one (or my landlord) since 2021
Bob **********
@Garrett **********
how do you do your 90 day report
Garrett ***********
@Bob *********
Just use the slip from 2021. They've never asked for a new one.
Nick ************
@Garrett **********
you will not be able to file 90 day report on line. You must be doing it in person and have a very co operative IO.
Garrett ***********
@Ni**
I've been here 7 years mate, not sure why you'd know what I can and cannot do but okey.
Nick ************
@Garrett **********
I've been here 6 years and I know what I can and can not do and don't imagine it will be very different for you. I'm just trying to give advice based on my experience. Take it or leave it, it matters not to me.
Bob **********
@Garrett **********
so you have one ?? And never travel ?
Garrett ***********
@Bob *********
I said I haven't done a new one since 2021. Yes, I travel a lot.
Bob **********
@Garrett **********
you obviously don’t use the imagination office I do
Stuart *********
Do it online here.
