Have you spoken to the Thai embassy in Canberra. They may advise with more clarity and may even suggest applying there again prior to returning to Thailand if not extending old visa a new 90 day and extend when back

The visa is for 5 years enter and leave when you want. It doesn't matter what date you put on the application. Who would know it check that ?

What's the big deal with overnight or even a couple of nights. It's cheap as chips and you get your visa. Relax and enjoy the holiday.

you should have questioned that with the officer who stamped you. Don't you check when your passport is stamped. Don't be a sheep and follow the crowd. Know your rights
