I have been denied boarding before without having onward ticket. And all those times were by Chinese or others Asian airlines and/or traveling between SEA countries.

I just travelled from USA to Thailand without any ticket to leave Thailand.

Airline agent asked me 2 questions:

1) Do I have a Visa? Answer No, i get 45day Visa exempt.

2) where is your ticket out of Thailand? Answer, i don't have because I will go to neighboring country Cambodia by land.

Agent: ok have a nice flight.

I would apply for the TR visa before leaving which gives you 60 days extendable for 30 more days. Cheaper and less hassle than getting the extension in Thailand
