TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses options for withdrawing cash in Thailand and finding the best rates for exchanging Euros to Baht. Key information includes that major Thai banks publish their exchange rates online, and users should avoid the ATM's conversion rates, as using your own bank for conversion is often better. ATMs like AEON charge lower fees (150 THB), while others like TMB, KTB, and Krungsri are also noted for good rates. Some banks, like Citibank, offer lower fees on withdrawals, and patrons can potentially avoid ATM fees by withdrawing cash over the counter at some bank branches.

Yep the cash fee is the issue. Citibank are cheaper at Baht 200. Aeon cheaper still at Baht 150 but finding an Aeon ATM isn't easy.

Some bigger Bangkok Bank branch offices allow to withdraw money over the counter. This will evade the typical 220 baht ATM fee, but will take some time and passport is necessary. Exchange rate is always determined by the card issuer (usually Visa or MC) unless local bank currency conversion is opted which no one should ever fall into.

Look close if you do the conversion at the atm they also charge a conversion fee. Think 10% but just look. I know that letting the atm do the conversion would cost you about 30$ in fees above the 220 baht fee. Always decline the conversion
What Wylie said, especially if your own bank doesn't charge extra for currency conversions. All banks charge a flat fee of around 200 baht for a withdrawal of any size and and most allow a max withdrawal of

baht but one allows more than that so have a Google and that will be the best value for you, should you need that amount of cash
I can't remember, one of them has a higher limit. I have a Thai bank account now so hasn't been an issue for me for a while so I've forgotten which it is. If I find the info I'll post

Never accept the bank atm conversion rate. Let your bank do the conversion. It's always better. Not just a little, but a lot better.
that's not correct. I send money to Thailand frequently, if I send in the currency of the sending country the rate is always much better than if I send Thai baht ie the conversion rate is always better if the currency is converted by the Thai bank. The rate received will be the Thai banks telex transfer rate which each Thai bank publishes on their website and is updated several times daily
when withdrawing from ATM if you don't take the machines conversion you'll get MC/VISA midmarket rate. Your issuing bank may or may not add another fee. It's generally best not to accept conversion at the machine
we're not talking about sending money. The op was asking about withdrawing money from the atm and using that banks atm conversion. For US dollars the conversion the atm gives me is always at least 2-3 baht per dollar less than what my home bank gives. When you add in the 220 baht fee it ends up being close to a 10% loss.
Perhaps I shouldn't use absolutes, since one may have a crappy bank at home that gives a terrible conversion, but I think that's rare and most people would agree to never accept the conversion at the atm.

The major Thai banks publish their exchange rates online. Just add the typical 220 baht ATM withdrawal fee that is added regardless of amount withdrawn.
