It is a border. They are doing that at most, if not all the border entry points.

Overstay stamps are never a good thing. Make sure you have an outgoing plane ticket , proof of accommodations and 20,000 baht to show if asked.

The extra 7 days is only when trying to apply for another extension and they deny you. They don’t always give another 7 days. Better to fly out and back in if you need additional time.
